"Pipe it through," "Mind the store" and more

Yes, yes, we all know "Fascinating" and "He's dead, Jim." But what are the lesser-known recurring phrases we remember and enjoy?

Yes, yes, we all know "Fascinating" and "He's dead, Jim." But what are the lesser-known recurring phrases we remember and enjoy?

"Standard orbit, Sir."
"Hailing frequencies open, Sir."
"Energize!"
"Steady as she goes."
"You have the con."

"...those mathematically perfect brainwaves of yours" (twice, I think. TSoG and RfM

"You've earned your pay for the week" (The Apple and DM)

That same stock recording of background intercom chatter that we always heard on the bridge. How many times did we hear “Aft scanner to bridge” and “Gravity is down to point-eight”?

“Ahead, warp factor one, Mr. Sulu.”

“Warp factor one, sir.”

Sorry, I missed the earlier post on "Pay for the week".

In Arena, the injured guy said "There has to be a reason. There has to be a reason!!!" I guess there was.

Check me on this, but I think some of the mind meld stuff was used, nicely in my opinion, twice or thrice.

And as pointed out in another thread, a nice continuity point in By Any Other Name (referencing Where No Man...): "Sensors say there's something there, Deflectors say there isn't!"

In Corbo and This Side of Paradise, McCoy and Kirk do the "I thought you said" "I never said that" routine. Both Jerry Sohl scripts, so that makes sense.

Oh, and how could I forget the execrable:

"Captain, I'm frightened" in City, shortened somewhat in Mirror, Mirror to "Captain, I'm I'm I'm" and subtly altered in Plato's Stepchildren to "Captain, I'm so afraid".

Kind of a low point.

"Deflectors, full intensity!"

And how 'bout...

"Deflectors say there's something there; sensors say there isn't. Density: negative. Radiation: negative. Energy: negative."

And, of course,

"All decks, this is Bridge-Engineering. We're going to emergency condition three."

"Mid-ship control acknowledging."

From what I've managed to piece together:

+ Gravity control switching to batteries.
+ Communicator, we need more lines to the impulse deck.
+ Forward scanner to Bridge.
+ Sensor beams. Full power on the deflectors.
+ Aft scanner to Bridge, Status report, please. Engineering controls negative.
+ Engineering deck three, can you give damage report?
+ All decks, this is Bridge Engineering. Due to emergency conditions...
+ All sections, security check in progress. Report. Forward phaser affirmative.
+ Aft phaser to Bridge. Alert status. All weapons at operational ready.
+ Forward Phaser-negative.
+ ... alert condition section at Operational ready.
+ Warp capacity point zero seven and building.
+ ?Engineering? section, reading only four point five here, can you confirm? Gravity is down to point eight.

I've always heard these as:

"Ultra sensor beams. Full power on the deflectors."
and
"All decks, this is Bridge Engineering. Go to emergency condition 3."

But I could be wrong. It's cool to have those in writing though.

Hey, I'm always up for corrections! These were gathered by the Mark#1 Ear, after all. ;)

Aside from background chatter, I should add another commonly uttered phrase:

Ahead, Warp factor one.

No sense in rushing...

Maybe not an exact quote but...

"In order to avoid interstellar war this ship and her crew are considered expendable."

And apparently the 24th century version would be:

"In otder to avoid interstellar war this ship, her crew and their children are considered expendable."

Robert

"If I jumped everytime a light came on around here I'd end up talking to myself."

-Bones McCoy, The Corbomite Maneuver

"If I'm not careful I'll end up talking to myself."

-Bones McCoy, Star Trek V: The Final Frontier

:)
