Pink Floyd member Richard Wright dies at age 65

:( This is a terrible day.....
First Syd, now Rick....I'm just stunned. At least it was quick, I hope it was as painless as possible. RIP Rick, say Hello to Syd for me.

"Strangers passing in the street
By chance two separate glances meet
And I am you and what I see is me
And do I take you by the hand
And lead you through the land
And help me understand the best I can
And no one calls us to move on
And no one forces down our eyes
And no one speaks
And no one tries
And no one flies around the sun" - Echoes

I am in shock. I came into work today and read this sad news. He will be greatly missed.

RIP.

Edited to Add: I'd just last night uploaded "Dark Side of the Moon" and "On an Island" onto my mp3 player and was thinking how cool it would be listening to them today during the evening shift. Now, instead, I'll be struggling to hold back a tear as I do so. It's a sad day :(

When I got home I played DVDs of Live at Pompeii: The Directors Cut, Classic Albums: The Dark Side of the Moon, David Gilmour In Concert (Royal Festival Hall 2002 with Richard Wright and Bob Geldolf as Special guests), Pulse and On an Island on a quality 7.1 sound system with pretty substantial bass at levels that should have had the police turn up (7 chan stereo used for the stereo tracks, 7.1 for the 5.1 tracks). I'm actually suprised they didn't..

Long live The Floyd. I'm so sad Rick has gone to the great gig in the sky.. :(

Edit: I should add that in 1988/89 I was privileged to have been able to have seen live in concert Pink Floyd in all it's glory, and needless to say, it changed my life. It was the loudest concert I'd ever been to, but it was absolutely crystal clear. It was ethereal in every sense of the word. That was the tour when the giant pig was cast off (after a giant storm in Sydney) and became an airborne thing all of it's own..

My Desktop background at work has been changed to the Dark Side of the Moon cover, and it will stay that way for a very, very long time..

I listened to Wish You Were Here, Dark Side of the Moon, and Meddle yesterday and today I'll be listening to my mom's copies of Ummagumma, Wet Dream, Broken China, and The Pink Floyd Early Singles.

Good call on changing your wallpaper. I should do the same since I've had the same one for nearly a year (a shot from "Time Crash," actually ).

Aye.

All of us here. All us fans of Pink Floyd are of a same mind. I feel a sense of sadness with all of you :(

I have the Wish You Were Here cover with the fishbowls as a desktop picture.
I'm really saddened by his passing.

Sorry about the double post. I checked DG's website and he wrote a few words dedicated to Rick:

No one can replace Richard Wright. He was my musical partner and my friend.

In the welter of arguments about who or what was Pink Floyd, Rick's enormous input was frequently forgotten.

He was gentle, unassuming and private but his soulful voice and playing were vital, magical components of our most recognised Pink Floyd sound.

I have never played with anyone quite like him. The blend of his and my voices and our musical telepathy reached their first major flowering in 1971 on 'Echoes'. In my view all the greatest PF moments are the ones where he is in full flow. After all, without 'Us and Them' and 'The Great Gig In The Sky', both of which he wrote, what would 'The Dark Side Of The Moon' have been? Without his quiet touch the Album 'Wish You Were Here' would not quite have worked.

In our middle years, for many reasons he lost his way for a while, but in the early Nineties, with 'The Division Bell', his vitality, spark and humour returned to him and then the audience reaction to his appearances on my tour in 2006 was hugely uplifting and it's a mark of his modesty that those standing ovations came as a huge surprise to him, (though not to the rest of us).

Like Rick, I don't find it easy to express my feelings in words, but I loved him and will miss him enormously.

Wow, thank you for sharing that, Mutenroshi.

*puts on Dark Side of the Moon for the umpteenth time in the past few days*

I don't know how long it's going to remain that way, but Roger Waters' website is displaying only candles at the moment. I think that's a very nice gesture.

^ It now has a short paragraph in memorial as well.

Picked up the special 5 disk edition of "Live in Gdansk" today (3 CD, 2 DVD). I'm enjoying it immensely. Truely awesome stuff..
