Pick a project ship

What do you all think, worth pursuing? This is a quick spline model so that I could see what it would look like relatively smooth and complete. I've altered the proportions a couple of times already, but this looks reasonably ok.

The nacelles are just lash-ups, I still need to come up with a cool design for those. The fat rear end will hold one or two sizeable shuttlebays, mainly because I like shuttlebays and shuttlecraft. This is going to be a reasonable sized thing, Voyager-sized or thereabouts, not a tiny Nova class or anything like that. I think it looks reasonably different enough to not be mistaken for a Normay or Nova or whatever, but we'll have to see how it progresses.

Looking at the rear, I was thinking of toying with a wing or pod joining the two booms. I'm not sure if it would sit above or below, or if it will house sensors, impulse engines or torp bays, but I might try it out and see how it looks later tonight. Anyway, opinions and ideas always welcomed. Once it's reasonably set I'll start a new thread detailing its construction.

so maybe this is a New more stealthy looking Shuttle/fighter carrier than the Typhon from Star Trek Invasion for PS1?

anyways it looks cool to me :) :techman:

Wow, that first shot is definitely not it's good side. I do like it from the other angles though. Maybe if the catamarans weren't flat bottomed but instead took some shape from your secondary hull a bit? sort of like this:

Or maybe with an undercut to it like this:

You are indeed correct, the catamarans need a bit of work. My plan was to cut some chunks out of them at strategic areas on the underside and build a sort of step down section to the lower part of the rear hull. That way it doesn't look quite such a fat ass. I cant really pull in the ventral hull any thinner, it starts to look silly and small comparted to the upper hull, so hopefully some add-ons should help. Also that's where I might possibly be saved by putting in a wing or rollbar.

^cool, it's your ship, just offering ideas. :)

Though the more I look at it, the more I like how that undercut in my second drawing joins the lower hull with the catamarans into one structure.;)

Yeah, the undercut looks best. Building a link between the underside of the booms and the rear hull should perform a similar function, but without looking just like decoration.

OK, reworked it a fair bit and decided it might be an idea to go with the carrier idea. As such I've knocked a couple of walls in and made it a larger thru-deck ship. I also played around with the proportions slightly again, and increased the overall dimensions. Here's some quick pics...

Still no clue what the nacelles might look like, or which way to orient them, but that's not a worry at this stage. I extended the ventral hull out and it now forms the floor of the landing area at the rear of the ship. Due to the shuttlebay I cant stick pods or wings or anything there. Such is life, I get a whopping great shuttlebay to play with instead.
