Picard's Nexus Child

I am watching Generations right now, having DVRd it last week on Cinemax HD...this is like the second in a week I have watched it. The movie has its detractors, and thats cool. As Star Trek fans we hardly all ever agree on anything..

But in the nexus, when they show a possible future for Picard? Why not show his wife being Beverly Crusher. Doesn't mean they had to end up together, just one possibility. It would have done two things. Showed us that Picard had feelings, special feelings, deep inside for Bev. And it would have allowed Gates Mcfadden to have more of a part rather than just being Geordi's nurse. And the thought, the possibilty that Picard and Crusher might have kids, is kind of cool.

Just a thought..

His wife should have been me! A big fat black guy! With facial hair! In drag!

(I guess I should come clean: I hate Generations because I can't stand to see my sexy Jean-Luc in the arms of another. At least I'm honest.)

Wasn't his wife Neela Darren?

Edit: Just checked on Memory-Alpha - I was wrong. The actress playing Picard's wife did play Ensign Brooks in TNG though.

Picard's son grew up to be John Connor on Terminator.

My rates are cheap. In this time of economic uncertainty, isn't that all that matters?

Oh, indubitably, but there one thing I absolutely must know before hitting the local beaches with a metal detector: Is the full GFE included?

Oh, as Connie Francis once put it:

"Oh you can kiss me on a Monday a Monday a Monday is very very good
Or you can kiss me on a Tuesday a Tuesday a Tuesday in fact I wish you would
Or you can kiss me on a Wednesday a Thursday a Friday and Saturday is best
But never ever on a Sunday a Sunday a Sunday cause that's my day of rest."

(Okay, I know I started this joke but now I'm getting kinda scared--as much by myself as by anything else. To reference Connie Francis one more time, I guess I'm sorry now.)

^ Stop being such a tease, woman! But seriously, the opportunity to spam a RobertScorpio thread (oh, the irony) was simply too tempting to pass up.

So, is that Beverly Crusher on screen the actual Beverly Crusher scooped up in the Nexus? Is the the fantasy Crusher that Picard imagines? Is this the real Crusher having a Nexus Fantasy of Picard? Why can't he leave the Nexus which he can't leave with the Crusher who's either the real one or the Nexus Echo one ... note that we've already got Real Guinan and Nexus Guinan confusing things.

Putting a canonical character in Picard's fantasy leaves things even more baffling than they already were, so it's better to stick with a safe, unambiguous fantasy wife.

Seriously? Maybe the Nexus woman (who resembles Crusher) is the Picard Platonic ideal of which Beverly is only a flawed shadow on his cave wall. Maybe she's the woman Picard knew before he met Beverly--a teacher of his, a friend of his mother's, a sexy aunt ()--who shaped his desire to the point where, when he met Beverly, he immediately fell in love because Beverly evoked Aunt Marie in his buttoned down libido.

(Sorry, TGT, my Pretty Woman days are behind me, alas.)

I said that Beverly Crusher should've been his nexus wife from the first time I saw the film! I love it in that scene when his wife asks him, "A cup of Earl Grey?" and he responds, "That would be perfect." But it should've been Bev asking. Definitely.

As for the kids, the boy they chose for Picard's oldest was a great choice. He had the Stewart nose. Was he related? The boy they chose for Rene was a fine enough actor but there was no resemblance whatsoever to the one who played Rene in the show. I know that actor was a bit older (mid-late teens?) by the time GEN was filmed, but using him as Rene in the nexus would've been great, too. (BTW, since he played a teenaged Picard in "Rascals", they could've used him as Shinzon in NEM.) I also wish they would've included Robert in the nexus as played by the same actor from "Family." Continuity has always improved Trek.

And they probably did not of that (actors playing same roles) under the mantra of saving money...Would have been great if they had done what you just suggested..

while i believe that the NEXUS was supossed to show picards perfect life, i think what it showed him was what his life would have been like had he not joined starfleet. basically because it was on his mind so much, the NEXUS put jean-luc into the life of his brother. still living in france, tending his vines.

because of all of this, picard never would have joined starfleet. never would have met beverly and jack crusher, or wesley (maybe thats the perfect moment ;) ). therefore it is not possible for his wife to be beverly.

Maybe all the Nexus shows is what they want in life, but not in true context. It's possible Picard wants a family with Crusher, but in reality he probably thought it wasn't possible so the Nexus shows the next best thing. I dunno, but I never thought about what you suggested before :)
