Picard’s Lunch

Jeremy

Cadet
Newbie
I know he was partial to coffee and a croissant for breakfast, but what would do you think Captain Picard’s standard lunch would be?

A cucumber sandwich and a cup of tea. Earl Grey. Hot.
Cucumber sandwiches are for tea. A chop with a floury potato and a pint of claret would be a traditional English lunch for the businessman but, sadly, unlikely in Star Trek...*

As Picard's background is French, I could see him eating salad with an omelette or quiche followed by some cheese.

*or, indeed, any time after the 1920s...

Given how quickly (culinary and other) customs seem to change even in our day, I wonder how 'French' Picard would still be (by our standards) in the 24th century.

He is seen eating Chinese food or something (I'm not an expert on this, please feel free to correct me) before Riker comes to see him in "The Pegasus".

Looks like snail and fish egg sushi on a bed of skunk cabbage (or oskoid :guffaw:)?

French Onion Soup, or Coq au Vin or Beef Bourguignon and Escargots. Bread of course as a side. Sometimes crepes and also eggs and toast. Sometimes with wine. Sometimes just water.

I went to check the script to see if I could slip "What is the charge? Eating a meal? A succulent Chinese meal?" into the dialog in the scene, and while that didn't pan out, the script does specify that Picard was having "a Japanese dinner," and he even offers Riker some sashimi in a cut line before he finally starts to lay into him about the mutiny and cover-up.

I think it's Japanese, & because of the lighting, the size of the meal & the fact that his talk with Riker seems off duty, I suspect it's dinner.

I'd hazard a guess he's not much of a lunch guy at all really. Maybe some triangular sandwiches for a snack.

Perhaps we're thinking too provincially here. This is the 24th century after all.

For all we know, his favorite lunch is live fresh gagh with a bottle of kanar to top it off.

(Though Picard does say in Unification he's looking forward to eating fresh gagh again on the Klingon ship since he hasn't had had it for quite a while ).

Makes you wonder what was so off-putting about the bowl of larva looking worms the neural parasite buggers were eating, if Picard & Riker are good with Klingon cuisine
