Philip K Dick's Electric Dreams

Starbreaker

Fleet Admiral
Admiral
The new anthology series premiered last night. It's on Amazon in the US, Channel 4 in the UK, and Stan in Australia. Not sure about the rest of the world, but y'all are a resourceful bunch. I'm sure you can find the episodes. The executive producers names you will probably recognize are Ronald D. Moore and Bryan Cranston. They've got some pretty well-known actors to be in the episodes, so I'm definitely excited about this. There was a trailer on Youtube for a while, but I'm having trouble finding it.

Then ten episodes being adapted are:

"The Hood Maker" based on "The Hood Maker"
"Impossible Planet" based on "The Impossible Planet"
"The Commuter" based on "The Commuter"
"Real Life" based on"Exhibit Piece"
"Crazy Diamond" based on "Sales Pitch"
"Human Is" based on "Human Is"
"Kill All Others" based on "The Hanging Stranger"
"Autofac" based on "Autofac"
"Safe And Sound" "Foster, You're Dead!"
"Father Thing" based on "The Father-thing"

I liked The Hoodmaker, but Rob Stark went from hate to love a little too quickly, even if she was on the pretty side.

It premiered last night? Damn, that's some poor marketing. I've been waiting for this show for awhile and I checked not long ago to see if there was an air date yet and found nothing.

Will advertising triple their audience?

This series was made because someone lost a bet.

Why throw good money after bad?

Yes, Electric Dreams is excellent to a nerd, but are there really that many nerds that love Dick?

I haven't read any of Dick's short stories, so this is all uncharted waters for me. That being said, "The Hood Maker" is spectacular. Extraordinary world building in an hour (less than that, really) while developing the classic struggle between telepaths and "normal people." I particularly loved the demonstration of telepathic powers, from the running through the Grapevine to Honor's attempts to read Ross' mind. I also liked the notion of creating a simple mask that prevents telepaths from reading people, thus given them not just anonymity from telepaths, but from everyone. I actually expected more development on the idea of anonymity from all, as well as further exploring the possibilities of people like Honor wearing a mask, but I suppose that wasn't the point of the story. Still, great story all around with fine performances from Richard Madden (I've never heard him with his Scottish accent before) and especially Holliday Grainger.

Where is it on Amazon? I just searched for it and all got was Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? and the book Electric Dreams, which collects the stories the episodes are based on.

I couldn't find it either. Nor could I find any indication as to when it will show up.
