Peter O'Toole announces retirement

I remember thinking he looked too shaky...more than ten years ago. He had a good run, and I'll be sorry not to see another lengthy interview in which he tells story about all of the crazy things he's seen and done.

Great actor, but I had the same though MOTW had above. I hope he still has a long & happy retirement ahead of him.

Good for him and all but I never really understood the need for these things. If you don't feel like acting, just don't. If you get the bug for some project eventually, do it. Why bother with this retirement crap? Just seems vain.

I'm glad he's able to quit on his own terms. Very sad that he's leaving the business. I think my fave performance of his was Henry II in Becket. So good.

He was my first Hollywood crush! Love those eyes...

I love Peter O'Toole, as an actor, writer and a storyteller.

I was just watching My Favorite Year the other night; he is truly one of the greats. I understand the need for a public statement; a man with his talent and reputation must be beset with offers. This way, everyone gets the message and he can be left in peace to enjoy his retirement. I hope it's a long and happy one.

When a man who has lived as active as him, and has worked as long as him, retires. Well, I always get a bad feeling. I mean, they always seem to deteriorate fast once they give up what was one the main driving forces in life.

The man is a great actor. It's sad to see him hang up his hat after so many years. I hope he has many grains of sand left in the hourglass of life.

I think Peter O'Toole is great, and really he's probably lucky to still be around!

I remember a great appearance he had on Carson or Letterman when he told a story from Lawrence of Arabia. They were shooting closeups for a camel charge, and O'Toole and Omar Sharif were really going to be riding galloping camels. The night before they were talking about how they were going to do it. Sharif said he was planning to fashion some kind of rope rig that basically tied him down to the camel. O'Toole said he wasn't going to do anything like that, he would just get really drunk beforehand. And Sharif said, as if it went without saying, "Oh, I'll be drunk!"

Best of luck to Mr. O'Toole in his retirement.

He's a great actor who will be missed. Fortunately for us we have DVDs.Enjoy your retirement Mr. O'Toole!
