It looks like it has a bit of a "What Dreams May Come" vibe...

Though...having a 14 year-old daughter *myself* makes the subject matter a bit...too close to home.

But at the same time, it's *her* copy of the book I borrowed to read... :/

ETA...can any mod help me embed the youtube video, please? Thanks!

No comments from anyone...?

I know it seems kinda like a tweenish movie, but the subject matter (in the book, at least) is a bit dark...

From wiki: The Lovely Bones...
is a 2002 novel by Alice Sebold. It is the story of a teenage girl who, after being brutally raped and murdered, watches from heaven as her family and friends go on with their lives, while she herself comes to terms with her own death. The novel received a great deal of critical praise and became an instant bestseller.

A film adaptation of the novel is currently in post-production and is being directed by Peter Jackson, who personally purchased the rights. It is set for release in the USA on December 11, 2009.
And Brian Eno is doing the soundtrack, btw...

I am very much looking forward to seeing this and have deliberately stayed away from spoilers and have not read the book. I want the film to be an unspoiled experience.

Anything Pete, Fran and Phillippa do in the future is something I want to see.

I thought I remember hearing them mention The Lovely Bones on the Lord of the Rings EE appendices once or twice . . .
I had assumed it was one of PJ's earlier films

No, you're thinking of "Heavenly Creatures", which is an AMAZING and very powerful film.

One of my best friends is the editor on the movie.

She says it's pretty bloody awesome.

Then again, she works under Peter so she's paid to say that. :)

I just finished the book...now can't wait for the movie!

Although I *do* expect the movie to be somewhat different...

I can see some things in the trailer that weren't quite so visualized as graphically in the book - while other parts of the trailer seem almost word-for-word from the pages...

...and then there were several parts of the book I do NOT imagine well see in...quite the same way in the movie - especially with an underage teenage star...

Still, I enjoyed the book - so did *may* 14 yo daughter, and her mom - and we are all three excited to see how Peter Jackson interprets it into movie form...

(Now I gotta go have a talk with my teenage daughter about her slightly racy choice of reading materials...lol...)
