Peek of David Hewlett in Morlock

I think he has plenty of range, even within the character of Rodney McKay.

In that clip it looked like he was off world with an SG team, as McKay looking for whatever alien they were looking for, even down to the other guys calling him "doc"

I don't think he means emotional range, he means as in actually playing different characters. If you watch David Hewlett in any role, the mannerisms and facial expressions are practically identical.

Yep. For example, he was in the Rise of the Planet of the Apes movie. Was his character called Rodney? Naw. But was Hewlett playing the exact same character? Yep. Sorry, Hewlett doesn't appear to have the range necessary to play a second character.

To be honest, I was getting a basic Stargate vibe from that clip in general. Seeing Hewlett acting completely McKay like only reinforced that.

haven't really seen him in anything else (quick glimpses while channel surfing), but Rodney changes a lot from his first appearances in SG-1 through to the end of SGA

Fair enough, not seen PotA though, so can't comment on his performance

As was I, thought it was a crossover with SGU or something...Rodney in fatigues, carrying a life form detector, with a couple of Marines calling him Doc - I fully expected to see a Wraith come bounding over the wreckage!

Hewlett was also in Splice. And while I thought he was very good, he was still basically playing a variation on Rodney in that flick, as well.

A lot of actors are like this. It's not necessarily a bad thing; they're character actors, the ones who play the same sorts of roles over and over again and are a reliable, familiar face.
