Can anybody recommend a free PDF converter?

I use PDF ReDirect, and I find it works quite well.

For anybody using a Mac, if you don't know you can make a pdf in any program's print dialog by choosing PDF the way you would choose a printer.

CutePDF has worked well for me where Word and Excel are the original source documents.

PDF995 works well for me, you just choose that as your printer option, and it 'prints' to PDF for you. Works with pretty much whatever, not just Word.
