Paul McGann WON'T be on the 50th anniversary...

Emperor-Tiberius

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
By the man himself, who said this on his twitter as a responce to fans asking him about it:

"Yes, I keep hearing similar. Truth is I didn’t so much as visit their set as I was away working. Nor was I invited to. I've often wondered if rumours, like jokes, aren't all started by the same excitable child or bored old man.”
You know, part of me wanted to make this thread just to cut down the expectations early and not prolong any kind of false hope on a rather cool notion, which it would've been to have the Eighth Doctor make his potential last appearence chronologically... but part of me also made this thread because I wish that this is still an attempt to keep the surprises intact for the anniversary, you know?

What do you think?

I seriously doubt McGann would screw around with the audience. If he says he's not in the 50th, then he is not in the 50th.

Thanks alot, why'd you have to go and do that in my Cheerios ;)

Bummer. Still room for that Webisode, though, the quote only says "Anniversary Special", says nothing about Webisodes

Never trust a word from the mouth of an actor or a writer.
They are after all professional liars. ;)

Some are, not all. I agree with The Wormhole. Paul McGann is not the kind of person to mess around with his fans on something like this. If he says he's not in it, then tragically he's not in it. :(

My only thought is that he could just ignore the tweets altogether on his twitter feed.
He didn't need to even reply, which suggests that he's probably telling the truth.

But, you never know.

Let's face it - if it doesn't have McGann and Eccleston it really is the biggest of missed opportunities. My interest in the 50th is decreasing even further.

Maybe it is time for Moff to go...

Not saying this is the case but a contract could have a clause in it that says you have to deny you're in it.

I think this probably is the truth but then I keep thinking of how Steve Carell swore blind that he wouldn't be in the finale of The Office US. So hope springs eternal etc.

Why? I mean he tried to get Eccleston but that was always going to be tricky, and frankly I still wonder if he wasn't give something of a directive from up on high "Modern Doctors only" or some such. It's doubtful any show runner could have got CE back, in fact I suspect Moffat got further than RTD would have done.

Just had a text that Peter Capaldi has got the job. Don't know how good the source is though...

:bolian:

Sounds fantastic to me.

Oh god I really hope not. he has to be one of my least favourites to replace Smith. I think that if they hire him, then he'll probably kill the show like Colin Baker did (hell I love Colin though). They're probably sack Capaldi and replace him at the last minute and then cancel the show. Just a theory though...

But I doubt your source is trustable.

Technically, JNT did, but it was in his era when the show began to die. McCoy was just the nail in the coffin (although I love them both.)

I just have a feeling that if Capaldi becomes Doctor 12, only bad things will happen.
