Parallels to other movie series

Just for fun really, they don't need to be exact. Onetime I used an analogy that Star Trek: Nemesis was like Batman & Robin and Star Trek (2009) would be like Batman Begins. So I went with that, and stretched it out all the way:

TMP = Batman (1966) - Go ahead, take that out of context. :p

I'm not talking about camp. It's related to the series by showing what happens after the five-year mission, is a result of the popularity of the series, and is produced by Gene Roddenberry. The movie's script was also originally meant for television.

TWOK-TUC = Batman (1989) and Batman Returns

The Bennett/Meyer/Nimoy era is like the Tim Burton era, particularly with Nick Meyer where you know if he's had a hand in the movie; literary references, blood, heavy use of red, and nautical detail. Tim Burton's movies are heavy on atmospherics and mood.

GEN-NEM = Batman Forever and Batman & Robin

Glitzy, flashy, not as much substance, at first these movies aren't so bad, some of them were even popular such as Batman Forever and First Contact but eventually they go down the wrong path and end up halting the series for several years.

ST2009 = Batman Begins

Starting over from the beginning (despite involving Leonard Nimoy), after a long absence, and directed/produced by those with far greater ambition for the scale of their movies.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture is to 2001: A Space Odyssesy as Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan is to 2010.

Ok, so not perfect. ;)

So Tom Hardy's Shinzon would be compared to Ahnold's Mr. Freeze?

I kind of buy that. The lines are almost as cheesy. Although at least Ahnold was at least humorous in addition to being cringe-worthy.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture is Alien to Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan as Aliens. Sure, the latter is action-packed; but is it really better than the previous film with its rather stylish art direction? Is James Horner's score better than Jerry Goldsmith?

^ Does that mean Ripley's death in Alien 3 is like the Enterprise's destruction in TSFS and the cloned Ripley is like the Enterprise-A*? No wonder they call it "she".

* Or more accurately, the Enterprise-H. ;)

BTW, to streamline the Batman comparison and to cut out the redundant Trek movies:

TMP = Batman (1966)
TWOK = Batman (1989)
TUC = Batman Returns
FC = Batman Forever
NEM = Batman & Robin
XI = Batman Begins
XII = The Dark Knight

Star Trek: The Motion Picture is Alien to Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan as Aliens. Sure, the latter is action-packed; but is it really better than the previous film with its rather stylish art direction? Is James Horner's score better than Jerry Goldsmith?

The difference there is that Alien is actually good. :lol:
