Paper Cuts (Big Finish audio drama)

Hi.

I have an interest in seeing (or, well, hearing) more about the Draconians - the species encountered in the Third Doctor story Frontier in Space, a story I need to sit down and watch fully sometime...

The Draconians are reported to have been the most favoured species that Jon Pertwee encountered during his time in the series.

So, I noted the Paper Cuts audio drama, released in September 2009, with some interest - though this time, it seems Draconia is visited by the Sixth Doctor, an incarnation I'm not all that familiar with:

The Empire is lost. The Deathless Emperors are dead. The future may never happen.
An urgent summons returns the noble Doctor to a planet he saved from disaster long ago. But Draconia, so elegant and so savage, is in worse turmoil than ever.

Who will be next Emperor? The highest Prince? The lowest peasant? The soldier with no name? Or the Doctor himself – his life at their command? Who controls the army of deadly origami warriors? And is the truth about Charley painted on paper walls in the Emperor’s tomb?

History is taking revenge on the Doctor.

Well, I'm hoping that the story doesn't completely kill the species off - but then, I suppose if Draconia was ever done for a TV episode, the producers may not feel beholden to the events of this work anyway.

So, does anyone here have Paper Cuts already - and if so, is it any good?

Recently, Big Finish has been doing something I think is brilliant. They are putting the first episode from the cd up for download for 99 cents. You can then buy the other parts for however much the full download would have been, minus 99 cents (so you don't lose anything by buying separately), or you can buy the cd.

My suggestion would be to pay the 99 cents and download that first episode. If you like it, get the rest in whatever format you wish. If you don't, you haven't lost the full price.

In terms of the universe's chronology, Paper Cuts actually slots between the unseen adventure where the Doctor saves the Draconians from the Space Plague and Frontier in Space, so there's no killing off the entire race. It's quite good-- I'd highly recommend it, especially if you like stories of politics and intrigue. It's got an interesting feel, different from most BFs.

They also appear in the spin-off drama Professor Bernice Summerfield and the Draconian Rage, but I haven't heard it.

The Draconians are also major players in a recent storyline in IDW's Doctor Who comic. Specifically, issues 3-6, which also feature the Shadow Proclamation and Mr. Finch and the Krillitane.
