Although the film was a huge hit, I feel that it's luster might expire by the time this thing has finished construction. It's not quite Star Wars in it's cultural impact. Sure, there are sequels coming out, but they might not be as popular if newer, more interesting fare is released

Well it's due to begin construction in 2013. I believe the sequel will be out in 2014. So there may be renewed interest in Avatar by that time.

Pandora may not be Star Wars, but its attraction lies in the immersive environment, which means that a theme park ride is exactly the right way to capitalize on its strength. In comparison, Pandora's characters, story and underlying premise aren't nearly as strong as Star Wars or Star Trek, but that doesn't matter so much for a theme park.

Yep, by the time this is up and running there will be a sequel on the horizon and apparently one more to keep it going after that.

Of course, it's possible that all the viewers who loved the first one will somehow realize how "foolish" they were or decide that the sequel is not worthy and the entire Franchise will tank.

Except that, you know, the chances of either happening are near zero.
