Painting

To pass some time and work on getting a new hobby off the ground I've taken to attempting painting.

It's been an interesting learning experience as I play with colors and try to figure out how I can mimic what I see. I just use acrylic as it was what I had sitting around and I make such a mess as it is water colors is not an option.

I was just wondering if anyone else here has gotten into painting. We have some creative types here.

I'd welcome any tips or techniques. I thought it might be fun to share what you've done and some of your favorites. Also what do you do with all those paintings once they're done?

The first bunch are all on canvas while the last two are just on paper:

I did it quite a bit as part of coursework for GCSE Art in Year10 / Year 11, but never felt I was particularly that good at it. Drawing with pencil was definitely preferable.

Wow, those are nice. I see a lot of Gauguin in there, as well as a bit of van Gogh.

I've never actually painted, being more of a cartoonist (when I'm not writing). However, lately I've been scanning stuff and coloring it in Photoshop in a way that hopefully mimics painting.

For example this and this.

Post more stuff!

Those are really nice paintings blab! :)

Way better than any of my efforts! And I already have a hard time painting my model figures, so I decided to buy prepainted ones. :o

I like your N'oreaster Grape Man.

Apparently no one else likes to paint.

I used to want to be a comic book artist when I was a kid. I even took Art for a one of my GCSEs.

I got a D. :(

Ugh, art classes. You can only be creative within the confines of what the teacher is willing to put up with.

So basically your grade completely rests on the teachers shoulders and just how much of a bitter person they've become.

NICE.

blablover5, your paintings are interesting, I like the third one especially...

I was considering posting my paintings and art works on this thread too, but I'm not gonna try to hi-jack your thread and steal your shine...

But anyways, my paintings I usually give away for presents, because if it's an actual painting on CANVAS, then that means I made it for somebody. Acrylic is some great, cheap stuff. I actually prefer it over oils, because oil paint's dry time is ridiculous.

Main point... try spray paint. It's fun.

edit: Eh, might as well post one. Canvas piece for my cousin. It's in the Ancient Filipino Writing system, Baybayin. It says his name... among other things.

Not bad. Have you tried Corel Painter 10? That's what I use, and I find it much more user-friendly than Photoshop. For manipulating pics, I use Paint Shop Pro 10, which is also more user-friendly.

Really? Photoshop seems so user friendly to me... layers over layers! It helped me alot when I was making stencils

Have you kept up with it on your own? A formal environment is frequently not the best place to nurture talent. But if you're genuinely bad, there's always Vertigo.

I haven't painted too much lately, but I found a program that's really cool called ArtRage

here's a pic I did in ArtRage

Nice work. I downloaded ArtRage, but haven't done much experimentation yet.

Great idea, and nicely done.

Thank you. I have not used either of those programs (yet); however, the woman who taught me the basics of digital painting uses PSP, so my techniques come indirectly from there.

Miaow!

No, I haven't kept up with it. I wasn't very good, you see. My talents were elsewhere.
