Painting in Sisko's quarters

On the wall in Sisko's quarters is a night starscape painting. Memory Alpha credits it to Shigemi Numazawa. I've recently been in contact with Shigemi and he says that, while he did provide artwork to DS9, this was not one of his.

I picked up a print of the painting at Norwescon or or maybe Westercon in the late 80's. Its signature calls it "Vantage Point" by Michael Bates copyright 1986 L1.1. I'm trying to learn anything about it. I'm curious. I haven't yet found any "Michael Bates" that is an artist of this type of work. Any help is appreciated.

Oh yes, I think that DS9 is the best of all the Star Trek series.

I know this is late, but I dont recall ever meeting anyone else who knew of this artist. I just joined this forum to share what I know.

I also own this poster and recall a little bit about it and the work its from. The artist was at the Winter Garden Art Festival (Florida) in either 1986 or 1987 and I met him there at that time. I believe he was there other years also, but I dont trust my memory on that. The originals were gorgeous and I believe reverse painted on glass if memory serves. They were also way out of my budget as I was a high school kid. It was a difficult to even afford the posters. He had a subscription service for I believe 6 of his works - limited to 1000 signed copies. You paid up front for the series and all yours would have the same number. They would be mailed as they were printed. Sight unseen for the posters, I purchased them and anxiously awaited them to start showing up. I have 105/1000 of the Vantage Point print dated 5/87. Somewhere (possibly stuffed in the back of the frame of my copy) I have a post card that shows the others that were supposed to be. Sadly, they never got printed to my knowledge and refunds were issued.

I was like, "what painting?" - but then I saw the pic on Memory Alpha and I immediately recognized it. Not as flashy as Picard's Enterprise painting, but pretty.
