P90X Extreme Home Fitness

So, I saw the infomerical about this program and was considering giving it a try. However, since I'm a couch potato, it might be too much for me to just jump right into. I thought I'd try the Power 90 In-Home Boot Camp, from the same guy, first.

Has anybody tried either of these programs? If so, what do you think, should I give it a shot?

I bought the set and did it a few times. Unfortunately, there is a lot of jumping around, and I was living above people in an apartment complex. I didn't want to be a douchbag neighbor, so I stopped doing the program. However, the few times I did it, it kicked my ass. I definitely think it's worth trying out.

any fitness routine without also practicing healthy food choices and having sufficient rest won't yield much results.

^No one asked that, but perhaps you have something useful to say about P90X?

I haven't used it, but I know two people who have, and they said it's an ass-kicking workout. Don't expect to be able to do much of it in the beginning unless you're already in really good shape.

I know someone who has it, and he is in pretty good shape and it still kicks his ass. I am a recovering couch potato and on his advice I'm starting with the 10 Minute Trainer before I do the P90X. The 10 Minute Trainer is pretty rough if you're out of shape.

Thanks for the responses. :techman:

I wasn't planning to jump right into the P90X. Seeing as how I'm very out of shape, it would probably literally kill me.

I was thinking of starting with the "Power 90 In-Home Boot Camp." But, what's this "10 Minute Trainer" you mentioned Kirby? Does it come with the P90X?

^^ Both P90X and The 10 Minute Trainer come from the same guy, Tony Horton, but if you're like me and pretty out of shape the P90X will be way too difficult. I borrowed one of the discs and lasted about 2.5 minutes before I gave up. That was when it was recommended that I try 10 minute trainer first. I figure after a couple of months I'll order P90X, but for now 10 minute trainer is challenging enough and I can feel the results.
You can just Google 10 Minute Trainer to find out how to order it.

Everyone I know that actually went through with it had crazy results. The problem is that most of the people I know didn't end up finishing it for one reason or another. Supposedly it can scale to almost any level, but considering I can't do a single pull up I highly doubt I'm going to be able to do any p90x. I even tried the regular p90 without the X, which is a lot of yoga, and that was too much for me and I just went back to jogging.

Thanks. I'll look into it.

I have several of the Beachbody products and like them all. I don't think you can go wrong with a Beachbody DVD set. You will get the results you want with Beachbody...as long as you Keep Pressing Play (you will hear that alot if you buy any Beachbody products).

I own Power 90 and do it all the time (although I do mainly the strength sections - called 'Circuit 1-2' and 'Circuit 3-4' and Ab Ripper - because I run a lot and count that as my cardio). I really like Tony Horton and plan to get P90X one day as well. By all accounts among the people I post with on a fitness site I am a member of, it is an effective program that yields the results - it is hard, but effective. Still, even though it is hard, you can do the alternative moves and get through it if you are in reasonable shape. And IMO it is better to buy a program that is too hard and do alternative moves and 'grow into' the fully monty than to buy a program that is too easy.

The next Beachbody product I will buy will probably be ChaLean Extreme or P90X. I might do ChaLean first...but P90X is in my future. And if I get in REALLY good shape, I might try Insanity.

I have not done 10-Minute Trainer so I can't speak about that. Still, I can tell you that Power 90 can be done by a beginner. It is getting to the place where it is too easy for me...but I have been doing the strength sections a couple of times a week since early February and run about 20 miles a week, do the elliptical, and do some spinning.

If you have more questions about Beachbody, I can try to help. I own Power 90, Slim in 6 (which I love - Debbie Siebers may look really sweet, but don't let that fool you - she kicks your ass too!), Turbo Jam and Hip Hop Abs. And like I said, ChaLean Extreme and P90X are both in my future. I will be ordering one of the two of them within the next couple of weeks, in fact, as a 'reward' for reaching one of my fitness goals.

And by the way, you can look at all of these products in great detail on the Beachbody website:

http://www.beachbody.com/jump.do?itemType=HOME_PAGE

Beachbody also has all of their infomercials and such on YouTube so you can look at them all - just type in "Beachbody" and their 'official' YouTube page will come up so you can see many of their programs. You can also see testimonials from users on their YouTube page....and those might be worth a look as well, because not everyone who purchases a Beachbody product is in decent shape when they start out. They will tell you how they did with the program as a rank beginner.

The bottom line for all Beachbody products is that these programs are not for people who lack commitment. If you want to get in shape, these products WILL get you there. But you have to commit to Keep Pressing Play, and be willing to sweat, and sweat alot. Because Tony (Power 90, P90X), Debbie (Slim in 6), Chalene (Turbo Jam, ChaLEAN Extreme) and Shaun T (Hip Hop Abs, Insanity) do not mess around. These guys - ALL of them, are hard-core.

You wanna get in kick-ass good shape, Beachbody is for you. But if you want to buy a program that is easy and that you can do right now in full, before you even start...Beachbody is not the place to look.

Myself? I own many fitness DVDs...but if I had it to do again, I'd buy Beachbody sets almost exclusively (I'd also buy Jillian Michaels DVDs - her workouts are hard-core too). Beachbody is expensive...but if you do the programs (or do as much as you can and not give up) you will get results - that much is certain.

I can get through about 30-45 minutes of most of the P90x workouts before I pretty much die and have to stop.

Great program. Be prepared to work HARD, this thing's no joke. Also, DO NOT skip YogaX. You put yourself through a lot of punishment day in and day out and your body needs not only the stretch, but the strength and endurance workout that it gives you. It's made me better at every aspect of my physical fitness.

Also, don't skimp on the nutrition. Make sure you follow the guide as closely as possible.
