Overcrowding in prison...

A couple Sunday's ago, I ran into one of my school mate's father. Now the school mate wasn't a friend of mine but I knew him, he was a popular guy and a nice enough guy but unfortunately he was killed around 7-8 years ago at a party when someone kicked his head in, in a fight. Messy affair there (they even have a video tape...Blech). So I talked to him a little bit to see how he was doing and everything and while talking he said the guy that killed his son is going to be up for parole soon. Now, I know the guy has to serve 10 out of 20 years. But that isn't the reason why they want him out. They want him out simply because he's costing the state money.

*sighs* And the father and his wife are fighting to keep him in but unfortunately that probably isn't going to happen simply because of the overcrowding of the state prison.

I feel really bad for the family because this is going to be a lingering issue for the next few years and even after that.

Sitting in a prison cell because one smoked a plant is insanity. It needs to stop.

It is really absurd that they are so adamant about keeping people locked up on drug charges (not talking about trafficking here, but possession) and they let guys like this out.

Personally, I can't believe he only got 20 years. I know death row inmates in Georgia who are on the row for accidentally killing their best friends in fistfights, probably similar to the one you described.

They knew each other but they weren't friends. It's appalling IMO.

Actually, I agree with that but also the non-violent offenders should be whacked with a large fine and possibly community service.
