Others using your picture on facebook

When people upload pictures of you onto Facebook does it ever bother you?

I find it rather annoying and occassionally worse. For instance a friend of mine is using my picture as her profile picture. Which is rather disturbing.

If my picture was placed on Facebook, it would make the Internet crash. Children would have severe emotional trauma. Other than that, I wouldn't mind.

And I did once get an e-mail from me wanting to know if I could add me as my friend.

Usually only my friends have pictures of me hanging with other friends, so it's fine.

One time a jealous gf of my friend took pictures of me and put them up when I wasn't looking. I was annoyed, but she wouldn't take them down, so I just kept deleting the tags.

If it's a group shot I'm in that's no problem. If someone was using it as a profile photo, that's impersonation and it's illegal.

People have been doing it for years to me. I typically just untag myself and get on with my life. Then I get revenge by uploading random pictures and tagging the people who uploaded pictures of me as a sofa or something.

No one has ever used a solo picture of me for their profile pic... it'd be very weird if they did. As for putting photos of me --group shots or otherwise-- into random albums, I don't mind... it's Facebook, I kind of expect that. Fortunately, nobody's ever used their photo albums to attack me... unless you count putting up a few less-than-flattering shots once in a while. ;)

I have no issue with people putting pictures of me in their Facebook albums. Most of them are from races, trips or activities I was a part of, so I have no real issue with that. If they were the ones to take the picture, they can do whatever they want with it. If it's my pictures, and I like the person in question, I don't mind them uploading them either. People putting a profile pic up that I was in? No problem with that either. Someone putting a profile picture up that is just me? Never had that before... it would probably be kinda weird... but I don't think I would have an issue there either.

The only time I've seen myself used as a default pic was on a photographers site - so no real problem there. People use my pics all the time... I've never even questioned it. The only time it annoyed me was when a newbie fan simply captioned me as 'Random Guy'.

Oh - I was recently alerted to a site I'd never heard of, Vampire something, with someone adding people using my pics and info. All I could think of was if I was going to pretend to be someone else, I'd pick someone more interesting and/or attractive.

A friend of mine has had problems on Bebo recently - profiles popping up using her name and picture. It's a little creepy. She just has to keep reporting them and wait for the profiles to be taken down, while me and others post 'You're not Gill' on the fake page.

Same here. It's not like random people just post pictures of me. If people do post pics, they're always my friends. I actually love it when people do it. I do it for them too. It's the memories!

Are you talking about friends who upload pics that happen to have you in them? And then they may or may not link your image to your profile?

Although the fact of the matter is that if your picture is available publicly online, anyone can do anything with it. There was a recent story about a strip club who used a model's image without her knowing about it and she's suing them for damaging her reputation and career.

If you're a pretty girl, scammers might try to pretend your pic is really them. Of all the dating and social network web sites out there, I'm sure there are a large chunk of fake profiles with people either looking to scam you or prank you. And they have a better chance to get away with it if they use a nice picture of a civilian rather than a celebrity.

If you ever get those less-than-desirable, not-safe-for-work popup ads, sometimes the pretty girl they use to advertise is clearly not someone who would ever be associated with that site and they stole her image.
