Other TOS Eps That Would Have Made Good Films?

I just managed to see TWOK for the ten trillionth time (but this time it was in the theater on film, so that was cool), and it got me thinking. We all know they pored over the run of TOS episodes to find one that would translate well as a film sequel, and picked Space Seed, but what other episodes do you think would have made good movie sequels?

Maybe they could have done a two hour epic sequel based on the trouble with tribbles?

I’ve been waiting for this ever since the day I first saw this episode. “I think it was six.”

It would translate so perfectly to the big screen.

Mix in a little bit of a Mutara style battle in with a slice of “Starship Down.” Oohhh!! Now that’s the way a Trek space battle SHOULD be!

It’s not about the cheesy action, it’s about the suspense and the characters.

Also, I think doing “City” on a more grand scale is an obvious choice.

I personally would liked to have seen Kor in place of Kruge in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock. He sure was a forgettable villain...right next to Ru'afo from Star Trek: Insurrection.

Kruge was just such a generic bad guy. I'm a Klingon and I'm going to shoot and blow up stuff. Roarrr!

I think they could've done something really epic with a continuation of "Mirror, Mirror."

"Balance of Terror" would've been good too.

Any episode with a superpowerful deus ex machina-style technology of the week that was never mentioned ever again.

Actually, that would go for ANY Star Trek episode, not just an Original Series one.

And the moral of the story: Don't make crap like that canon if you're not going to be consistent!

But "Balance of Terror" lifted liberally from "The Enemy Below"...not just mimicked its concept, so the convergence of Armageddon and Deep Impact isn't a really apt comparison.

I agree: "The City on the Edge of Forever" would be an ideal choice. I'd also like to see "Where No Man Has Gone Before" get the same treatment...

City on the Edge of Forever could have been extended to 2 hours. More Kirk and Spock in the 20th century, more exposition between McCoy and Edith, more Kirk/Edith romance, the minor characters going through the portal to track them down, and a longer ending upon returning to the corrected future.

Wait a minute...

Are we talking about TOS eps that would lead to good film sequels
(Space Seed-->Wrath of Khan)
-or-
Simple remaking existing TOS eps into big films?

The OP sounded like he was talking about the former -- making film sequels to TV episodes.

Yeah, that's what I meant, like Space Seed to WOK. I guess my topic title was kind of misleading.

To add my couple of cents in, I might have liked to see some craziness return with Garth of Izar. But then again, that might have been a little too much like Khan.

Oh no...I got the idea correctly.

But there were comments about COTEOF being two hours long
and doing BOT and so on.
Sounded like re-making the same eps rather than continuing the stories.

Anyway...maybe there is a difference between eps that should lead to films (because of the scope and budget) and
eps that should lead to sequels (because of the stories).

I'm reminded of TAS (which I love) and how many of those were sequels to TOS eps.
Sure, Space Seed led to Wrath of Khan.

But Shore Leave led to Once Upon a Planet.
COTEOF led to Yesteryear.
Trouble with Tribbles led to More Tribbles, More Troubles
Kor came back in The Time Trap
and so on.

Some stories should be re-visited, I guess.
But perhaps not necessarily as a big screen spectacle.

The Ultimate Computer.

A prototype ship built with a complete M5 computer system, is put in storage after the incident in the original episode. Years later, the ship 'wakes up' and tries to find Daystrom, who is still in hospital. In a bid to move Daystrom to a safer location he is accidentally killed, and the prototype goes apeshit wanting revenge - starting with the Enterprise...

Cue the usual plot points; battle in a nebula, sacrifice of a main actor, etc.
