Other Joss Whedon alumni for Dollhouse

Let's just say for arguments sake that Dollhouse isn't cancelled, and continues on and on.
Already in the show we've had a few appearances from previous Joss Whedon alumni, notably-

Eliza Dushku- (Faith, Buffy/Angel)
Amy Acker- (Fred, Angel)
Mark Sheppard- (Badger, Firefly)
Alan Tudyk- (Wash, Firefly/Serenity)
Felicia Day- (Vi, Buffy / Penny, Dr Horrible)
Alexis Denisof- (Wesley, Buffy/Angel)

Upcoming- Summer Glau- (River, Firefly/Serenity)



So for fans of Buffy/Angel/Firefly/Dr Horrible etc, which actors from Whedon's previous works would you like to see appear on Dollhouse?

I know it would be unwise to clog it up with too many, buts lets just say for fun

I'd like to see J August Richards (Gunn) appear, seen as I don't think I've seen him in anything since Angel finished, maybe same for Nicholas Brendon (Xander) and Sean Maher (Simon) too.
Seth Green (Oz) is always good, and a scene between Anthony Stewart Head (Giles) and Olivia Williams would be awesome.
Oh and Michelle Trachtenberg (Dawn) would make a perfect Doll :D


And also for fun, seen as we've had Tahmoh Penikett (Helo), Jamie Bamber (Apollo) and Michael Hogan (Tigh) appear, what other BSG actors would you like to see?

I concur with the Nicholas Brendon bit. Where the hell has he been? Surprised Joss hadn't placed James Marsters in any episodes, although he was becoming the Wolverine of the franchise huh, overshadowing the other characters?

Juliette Landau would be another good choice. She could be a Doll from another Dollhouse in New York or something. Not quite sure if I've ever seen her as anything, but Drusilla
 
It's always fun to see David Boreanaz & Nathan Fillion in stuff. In fact, I keep hoping for a proper scene with Boreanaz & Fillion together. That's why I keep praying for a Bones/Castle crossover.

I'm also a big fan of Julie Benz (Darla) & Stephanie Romanov (Lilah).

What's Emma Caulfield (Anya) been up to?

Either Dick Wolf noticed how good Richards looked in a suit or Elisabeth Rohm told him good things about him. Either way, right after Angel was canceled, Richards showed up as a lawyer on the short-lived, little-known Law & Order: SVU spin-off, Conviction.

As crazy as Drusilla was, the character she played in Ed Wood was even nuttier. "No! No water. No liquids. I'm incredibly allergic."
 
Whenever I watch a Joss Whedon programme, I can't help but think there seems to be a kind of nepetism going on. How many different Whedon shows will there be with his favourite clutch of actors before people will think "Oh not her/him again"
 
J. August Richards also showed up on The 4400.

I'd kill for Ron Glass, Seth Green, Harry Groener, Adam Baldwin, Jewel Staite or Armin Shimerman.

His post-Buffy show Kitchen Confidential was swiftly cancelled, and in 2004 he went into rehab for alcoholism. He's doing fine now, but seems resigned to TV-movies and the like.
Shame because of the "core four" of BTVS, he was always the most overlooked, when often Xander really made the show.


As for reusing actors, at least they're not confined to the same roles. I really like that he used some of the actors from Firefly after it was cancelled in Buffy & Angel, but giving them totally different roles.
ie. Zoe was this tough, warrior, gun toting fighter woman, whereas Jasmine was an elegant, flowing, beautiful godess.
Mal was the big damn hero, not religious, whereas Caleb was a crazy evil priest.
Jayne was a dirty, lowlife, scoundral kind of guy, whereas Hamilton was a very suave, extremely smart, sophisticated, albeit tough-as-nails man.
Wash was a friendly, funny, likeable guy, whereas Alpha... wasn't :)
 
Anthony Stewart Head would be awesome indeed. Is he busy with Merlin at the moment, though?

I imagine if James Marsters showed up, there'd be as many fans saying 'Him taking over a Whedon show again?' as those who would be cheering. I'd like to see him, though.

Armin Shimerman would be awesome too. What's he up to these days?

Ron Glass would be awesome as some sort of high-end Dollhouse client or Rossum Corp. board member.

Nepotism on a Joss Whedon show isn't a bad thing. All of the best episodes of Dollhouse have been written by his brother & his sister-in-law.
 
Another vote for ASH. Pretty sure it'd never happen, but I'd like to see Boreanaz. He'd make a pretty doll. He'd make a good candidate for exploring female-on-male sexual fetishism and exploitation. Of course they could just as easily do that with Enver.
 
Is Boreanaz still on good terms with Whedon? I sometimes get the feeling that he's a bit standoffish about his time on Buffy/Angel. I certainly don't hear him gush about the man the way many of his other actors do.

But then, off all the characters Joss Whedon ever created, I think Angel was the one where the character's success surpassed the material that was being written for him. David Boreanaz has a very specific sense of comic timing that he brought to Angel, something that wasn't on the page, would be very difficult to write for, and was completely absent from the character in his 1st couple seasons. Boreanaz is the only actor I've ever seen who can act like a complete spaz and yet it never takes away from his badasssness.

Honestly, it's left me wondering how Jed would do if he got out of Joss' shadow. He seems to have about as strong a pen as his brother....
 
He ought to do something with people from his failed projects, he could have Kristry Swanson, Paul Reubens, Ron Perlman and so on. He could throw in Roseanne Barr for good measure even if that wasn't a failure.

Even with "I Don't Dance"? I think there was humor early on.

I get the impression that Joss Whedon wasn't so hands on with Angel and that might lead to the standoffishness, not necessarily personal, it just wasn't there.

Dollhouse's own Harry J. Lennix (Boyd) kinda reminds me of Ron Glass a bit, he would have made a good young Book in a Firefly flashback.


I doubt it'd ever happen, but SMG on the show would be fun. Maybe as the main "season villain." It'd be interesting to see the flipside of the Buffy/Faith dynamic, where now Eliza plays the good one and SMG the bad one.



As for Boreanaz, I saw a video interview a month or so ago, and he seemed happy to answer questions in regards to Angel. Basically repeating that he thought a big budget movie follow up would have been cool and he'd have been onboard for it, but obviously doubtful it'd happen, esp now

Good idea. I like it when the producers of tv shows use the audience's knowledge and expectations in their drama. This would be a kick ass use of that!
 
I love so many of the actors that Joss has encouraged over the years. Anthony Stewart Head would be great. Harry Groener would tickle me to bits. Julie Benz would make me cheer. Juliet Landau would leave me speechless. There are so many more. There are very few I WOULDN'T want to see again.

That said, I have to admit when Joss uses people over and over in his projects, it does start to feel claustrophobic. It becomes hard to see past the beloved prime character to focus on the new one. Alpha was Wash acting crazy. Dr. Saunders was Fred without the Pylea baggage. I mean, I know their acting was better than that, and I know it shouldn't be that way, but my head is stubborn in loving its seminal characters.
