OT: THE LAST WORLD WAR by DAYTON WARD Reviewed

Maybe, but Max also makes specific references to different nations on the planet and says that smaller nations got caught up in the middle.
If you had potrayed Janashtreena (sp?) as a unfied planet that was torn apart by internal quarrels then I'd agree.
But I had the impression that it was two independent nations fighting against each other

Have you heard the saying: "All wars are civil wars because all men are brothers"? I sure the same would be true for aliens from Janash... :D that planet.

I thought I'd pull this thread up from the basement and dust it off in order to embarass Dayton a bit... ;)

I stopped by B&N on my way home from work, and noticed that TLWW was back in stock, after seemingly being stocked out for several weeks. On a hunch, I picked the book up and checked the copyright page...

... and it seems that Pocket has gone back to press for a second printing!!! :D

As long as this thread is here, I might as well comment. As it happens, I read The Last World War shortly before John Ringo's A Hymn Before Battle. Both books struck me as being in a similar vein, although I must say that AHBB was a bit better (no offense, Dayton!).

My biggest gripe was the lack of resolution....this is one of those books that needs a sequel to have any sort of closure.

Other that that, I liked it a lot. Except for the way that what I had originally thought to be the prolog, lasted for half the book......

Thanks for the tip, Bill! I'm trying to get some confirmation from Pocket (though I have no doubt you know what you're looking at when you pick up a book :D)

Lindley, Ringo writes some fun stuff, though he tends to get a bit too far into the techy side of things for me. Not a ding on him, of course...just my particular reading tastes. Glad you liked TLWW, though!

Yes, a sequel is planned, but there are a few logistical hurdles to clear beforehand, not the least of which is me getting around to finishing the outline for it. If I could just talk my dayjob boss into paying me to stay home, I'd have it made.... :)
