OT: Floating City

I did a version of this a while back, but the model I had was right at the limit of what Bryce 6 and my old PC could handle. With Bryce 7 and a fast[er] machine, I've restarted the project from scratch.

Here's the progress so far:

Latest update:

The old project has a folder in my dA gallery if you're interested.

Nice!

The first thing that comes to mind is Atlantis.

If I had to guess by look, I would say that it might not be Federation, or even of the Trek universe, though the fact that you posted it in this sub-forum suggests to me that it could be. Given that I don't know all that much about Federation architecture, I probably wouldn't be able to determine stuff like that myself...

Anyways, good job.:bolian:

Looks great. I started a thread in the science and technology forum about possible ways that floating cities (in the air) could actually be done in the future using advanced airship technology without undue handwavium.

ty for the kind words all, and to answer questions, yes it will get a dome for the space version, and yes I plan to do others as well. I'm envisioning the template as the central area being where the command-and-control and bureaucracy is, as well as the residential sections. The outer ring is the business/industry section, where people work and produce things and services. I still have to finish detailing the outside of the support structure, which will have hangers for aerospace craft. The outer ring will be different for each kind of city -- I'm looking at it as a multi-environment, multi-use kind of platform, from Blish-esque cities wandering the skies and cosmos to defense platforms, trading outposts, scientific stations, etc...

I have a couple of those books, they're very cool... :D

Here's a nearly-final version of this one:

Good place to avoid earthquakes, hurricanes, floods, and even tornadoes. I'm guessing that might lower insurance costs.:D

Yeah, but imagine the cost of living.

I don't want my apartment to be jettisoned because I forgot to pay my Hover Bill.

Nah, they could just simply kick you out of your building, and make you responsible for sky taxi and hover moving van expenses. I can also imagine "bums" living in that park area, for those who don't have the money to pay for moving out.

Unless there aren't laws forbidding such treatment, in which case, it really sucks for those who fail to pay that bill.
