This means the following Macs which are supported under OS X Lion will not be able to run Mountain Lion (model identifiers in parentheses):

  • Late 2006 iMacs (iMac5,1, iMac5,2, iMac6,1)
  • All plastic MacBooks that pre-date the aluminum unibody redesign (MacBook2,1, MacBook3,1, MacBook4,1)
  • MacBook Pros released prior to June 2007 (MacBookPro2,1, MacBookPro2,2)
  • The original MacBook Air (MacBookAir1,1)
  • The Mid-2007 Mac mini (Macmini2,1)
  • The original Mac Pro and its 8-core 2007 refresh (MacPro1,1, MacPro2,1)
  • Late 2006 and Early 2008 Xserves (Xserve1,1, Xserve2,1)

I'm still running Snow Leopard and have been hesitant to upgrade to Lion. Not sure if I'll even want to upgrade to Mountain Lion, either.

I just upgraded to Lion a couple of weeks ago.

If they bring back the way to arrange Mission Control workspaces in a grid format instead of lining them all up next to each other then I'll upgrade as soon as possible. Mission Control is the most annoying Lion 'upgrade'.

Otherwise I've been quite happy with it; weirdly it even seems to run faster than SL did on my oldish early 2008 MBP.

I'm still running a PPC G5 - it's still a fast and great machine (better than some of the early Intel offerings) but I'm stuck at Leopard forever. :(

I upgraded to Snow Leopard after 4 years on my MBP only because software and programs were becoming more and more incompatible with the earlier OS's.

I'll upgrade from SL only after this happens again. Hopefully not for another 3 or 4 years. I really don't need anything more.
