Orci's Official Explanation for appearance and eye color [SPOILER]

BlueMetroid

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
I'm new to the boards, but a Star Trek fan since birth (Klingon was my second word as a child, and Walter Koenig proposed to my wife).

I wanted to share this information with the rest of the ST community, so I thought I'd "join up". I recently Tweeted Roberto Orci and asked him a couple nagging questions I have (and I know all of you do too) about the "Abramsverse".

Here are his answers! :)

Re: Orci's Official Explanation For Appearance & Eye color (spoilers)

It's been nearly fifty-years and these are different actors seem like a good enough explanation to me.

Like I keep saying -- in the movie, Spock Prime recognized Kirk and Scotty on sight. So in-universe, they look the same. Only the actors portraying them look different.

What about McCoy's change in eye colour? He he he.

Seriously I don't care.

Nice of Robert Orci to respond to your tweet though.

Explain this, Orci.:p

Watch me nerd this one out of the park with a completely unnecessary explanation:

Another alternative to laser treatment is cryosurgery using liquid nitrogen. Controlled destruction of skin cells causes the skin to naturally regenerate itself. Excess melanin comes to the surface and peels off in a few days.

Khan and all his followers turned from a rainbow coalition of Augments to an Aryan Übermensch convention a few days after they left the Enterprise because cryogenic freezing gives you the skin bleaching of a lifetime.

BOOM! Tell 'em Winston.

You know, everytime I think of TWoK, I wonder how nitpicky people would've gotten in 2013 because it's the "in" thing.

"HE SURVIVED WHAT?!"

Or maybe he just lost his tan being stuck on a planet without sunshine for 20 years.

Ha, love the Metroid background on your twitter feed, BlueMetroid.

At any rate, the nuTOS comics have been pretty OK so far, I'll gladly look forward to those.

My explanation is that when you have poor eyesight in the future, when they laser/whatever to your eye to fix it you have the option of changing eye colour.

Or you can just ask for a cosmetic change. Why you'd change your eye colour to brown is beyond me though ;););)

"Can we get canon explanation for Khan's appearance change? Thanks!” Wait 4 IDW comics!
Oh thank God, I can sleep easy now.

I don't know about you, but as a hardcore Trekkie his appearance changed really bugged me. It may not be the full answer just yet, but it's something to tie us over until it comes :techman:

Gracias! Those are my all-time favorite games!

Walter Koenig proposed to my wife

I wish to hear more of this.

Sure!

I knew I wanted a unique proposal idea....something that would be very "me" (Star Trek is my life) and also be special to my wife (she's a Trekkie also....ST is the first thing we bonded over).

I contacted Mr. Koenig and asked if he'd be part of my idea....to my complete astonishment he gladly agreed! He was such a nice guy through the whole process. We collaborated through a few phone calls, and decided he would call my wife at an arranged time and pop the big question.

Mr Koenig had just one condition though....he wanted me to record it so he could see it for himself. Now, at the time I didn't have access to a webcam, but how can I say no to Walter Koenig?! So I somehow rigged my ol' PlayStation EyeToy into a working webcam, and was able to record the whole thing.

He called her and told her who he was....she was totally awestruck (we'd "conveniently" watched all the best Chekov TOS episodes in the days prior). After some small talk (how are you, etc.) he said "Spencer thinks you're really great, and wants to know if you'd be his wife". My fiance began to cry, and Mr. Koenig knew I had something prepared of my own, so he said his goodbyes. I got down on one knee, and read my little speech that I'd spent the day memorizing.

She said yes, and the rest is history! Mr. Koenig loved the video, and we still keep in contact. He and his wife even sent us a Congratulations card after our wedding!

My wife had "My Imzadi" engraved inside my wedding band...her name for me....Star Trek really did bring us together!

Whew....long story I know...but thanks for reading!

I'd think a hardcore Trekkie would be used to appearance changes by now, what with Saavik and DaiMon Bok and Tora Ziyal and Zefram Cochrane and the Borg Queen and so on. Not to mention that everyone's appearance has changed in the new movies, except for Spock Prime.
