This is driving me nuts: I'm using XP Pro wireless with an Opera browser. Lately I've been getting a blank screen when I try to log in to my homepage. (The homepage isn't down. It loads in fine with IE which I hate.)

Okay, so I just go to another site but then the pages won't load in. I can read them but that green bar is there telling me it's not loading all the way. Now it's okay. It comes and goes. Anybody have an idea what's causing this?

Sounds like spyware, or a redirecter trying to reset your homepage..

perhaps you should update your antivirus/spyware cleaner and run a scan...
and reset your cookies in the browser control panel..(you will have to remember your username password combos though)..that should help...

Thanks, goldbug. I already did that. It's a mystery. The best advice I ever got from a tech was to turn everything off, wait a bit, let the comp straighten itself out, then try again. That generally works although it's frustrating when you suspect you're being hijacked.

If it doesn't work then you are left with two options (short of reinstalling the OS itself).
Reinstall Opera, or Install Spybot and run a full computer check (some anti-virus solutions and programs that lack specifics might miss some garbage).
If IE is opening your web page, then it's probably contained to Opera only.
Random problems do happen after all.

I whacked 2 pieces of spyware, Deks, so maybe garbage was messing with something. Or maybe Opera was having a bad day. So far so good.

You said you were using wireless - could it be a signal strength issue? Happens in one geographic location and not another?

I'm guessing a bit here, Australia is some way from having cheap wireless available in the country areas, so haven't used it much.

Nope. Strength was 100%. The problem hasn't recurred since I first posted so I'm leaning toward now defunct spyware that was gumming up the works.
