Open Source Space Ship Design

Hello. This is my BBS, the forum in particular about space. I have posted
several ship images and I am working on open design for a 50 year plan
to colonize our solar system. I would very much appreciate any feedback,
help, thoughts, or ideas. The idea of this forum is to attempt to move forward
using extrapolated real science. So we can discuss FTL but the idea is that
these ships will be doing what real science can now (or in the near future)
deliver.

Star Trek is awesome, and its fun to think about, however, aside from inspiring us it isn't getting us any closer to the stars. NASA is frankly a great example of the worst case scenario groupthink experiment. Somebody has to
break the new ground and put forth the ideas that push us out there and get things really moving. And this is that place and I am doing my best- so far alone- to be that person.

The images I have up are pretty much sketches, I'd like to take them further and add details via group exploration and process. The 50 year plan calls for us to build a string of different ships which I have generically labeled "X" and then numbers. The idea is that a ship which fullfills the mission description is an X-whatever, theres no specific ship that actually is
an X1 or x2, but instead any ships which meets specific design criteria is a version of an X1 or X2. So this means that anybody can take the design criteria as stated and make their own designs if they wish.

I'm very exicted about this and I think that it is very important. I have a lot of knowledge and information to bring to the table, but I'm only one person-
and I'm an Aspie at that. I think this is an extremely worthwhile venture,
and I really think that the people here are the kind of folks who should get in on it.

From what I have read there are some people who know their physics, and others who know their math, and etc. I know a whole lot of physics, but I don't do math well at all. (i'm an idiot savante and math is one of the things
i am really very weak in.)

That's a pretty bold plan. Seems you have a lot of work to do.

Might I suggest making your forum's permissions public so your details can be seen?

Its not that hard to register- at least it shouldn't be, i disabled the "authentication" email and etc.

As this is in the Web Sites/Design forum, I'll offer you a bit of web site design advice...

People make snap judgments on web sites (within the first 15-30 seconds), and will look to support that first impression for the remainder of the time that they are on your site. This means that if someone gets a negative impression in that initial period that they will be overly critical of the site for the remainder of the time that they are visiting. Similarly, if someone gets a positive impression in that period they will be quite forgiving of the site for the remainder of the visit.

In web design, first impressions can make or break a web site.

A good example (and not too far off of what you are doing here) are designers who insist on using the most up-to-date versions of things like Flash. If a person's first experience with a web site is that they are instructed to go and download the latest version of some software, you can bet that you've lost that positive first impression and will be fighting an uphill battle to overcome it for the remainder of the time they are there (if they return at all).

So, while it may not be that hard to register for the viewers of your site, it will be very hard for you to overcome that first impression.

I'm not sure who you are aiming your site at, but if it was someone like me... then you've lost out as I'm reticent to "join" what I don't already feel I know something about.

i feel ya and i hear ya. But the software doesn't seem to give me the option.

As near as i can tell, its done to avoid hot linking and such.
