One thing we all regret...

StarTrek1701

..Scott Bakula never got to say "Oh boy...." in any episode. :(

Was watching Chuck from last week on HULU and he says it once. That's when it struck me. He can say that as a guest star but never in a show he headlined? That's most certainly the biggest screw-up by the writers and creators of Enterprise, but of course it's only after TATV. That is a whole another story!

Star Trek is coming out nearly exactly 4 years after ENTERPRISE left our screens. May 8th, 2009 from May 13th, 2005. I still have a bit of sadness that it was canceled way before its time. Oh well, we still have more Star Trek on our way! :)

Hoping to have more TV Trek on our way!

I recently caught a few episodes of season 4 of ENT, and I thought it was a pity that the show was canceled just when it hit its stride. I think the last season of ENT shows Trek TV can still be relevant today. I know we won't get ENT-era Trek back, but I'm hoping for more Star Trek on TV (rather than in movies) if the franchise gets relaunched.

I think the perfect time for him to say "Oh Boy," is right after he realizes he's been poisoned by Hoshi in IAMD.

I'm glad they didn't. You know, I didn't like that it was always the opening line for the program. Kinda cliche and a bit cheesy.

Slipping an 'Oh Boy' into ENT would just have degraded the reality of the program. And with B&B in charge, there wasn't that much to begin with.

I always thought of Sam's "Oh boy" as a regular phrase of his, one he would use if he were living a "normal" life. The way someone else might say "Holy crap!" or whatever.

I like that, even though it was mostly used in a humorous way, every once in a while Sam would find himself in a deadly serious situation, and his "Oh boy" would take on an entirely different tone.

If Jon were to say "Oh boy" on Enterprise, the writers would have staged it with full knowledge that the line would get a reaction of recognition from viewers that totally distracted them and broke the fourth wall for an instant. (That's what happened when I heard Chuck's dad say it.) It might have been better suited for a lighthearted episode, when viewer distraction (and maybe a laugh) wouldn't mess with the momentum of the story.

The one Ep that they might have been able to get away with it would have been the one with Dean Stockwell.

Archer is confronted with a situation, utters an "oh boy", and Stockwell gives him a sideways look. Bakula shots him a questioning look and says "What?" Stockwell replies, "Never mind." and he scene goes on.

Kind of cheesey, but might have worked as an inside nod, to those of us in the know.

I was a huge Quantum Leap fan (still am in fact) so I would have loved it if they'd worked it into an episode, although I admit it would have been cheesy. Sometimes cheese can be good though!

I'm happy they didn't make him say that. I cringed when he said it as Chuck's Dad, even though Chuck is a show that often incorporates such pop culture references.

Not only did we never get an "Ohhhhh, boy" from Archer, but his early, experimental catchphrase("Let's go!")was used just a couple of times before it was unceremoniously dumped as ineffective.

Agreed.

In "Broken Bow" it sounded alright. But repeated more than once or twice it sounds too cartoonish.

Leland Orser (Loomis) got to say it quite loud in Carpenter Street, which Scott winced at - possibly unscripted. :p

The lack of an "Oh Boy" isn't even on my list of regrets about ENT.

Your avatar is one of my deep regrets about the show. That we never got to see Shran as a regular cast member or even part of Enterprise's crew. Season 5 would likely have kicked ass.:(

You know it. I've always been a fan of Combs' work, waaaay before he started doing Weyoun on DS9, back to his 70s/80s slasher flicks. It almost felt like the writers were building up to that, because the Andorians were effectively updated for ENT. Shran in some regular capacity would've shaken interest in the show up. Not that Season 4 wasn't already beginning to "catch lightning in a bottle" to borrow a TV Exec term.

Shran would have excited a lot of viewers. Combs' acting style and personality are real winners in this genre and just knowing Shran was on the Enterprise bridge sparring with Archer and T'Pol over anything and everything would have been all that much more incentive to tune in every week.

Wasn't there an episode where Porthos did something on a planet that upset the local so much that Archer had to apologise for it, the same one that gave us the famous Gazelle speech? If it was shown onscreen that could've been an oppurtunity to hear an "Oh boy" as we see Archer and co walking along, Porthos wanders off, does his thing, Archer goes to look for him and finds him doing something that he shouldn't be doing and that's when he says his oh boy line.

Another oppurtunity could've been on the Risa episode where instead of Trip and Malcolm being mugged by the gender changing thieves make it Archer and Trip and when the thieves reveal themselves Archer could give the oh boy line there.

Leland Orser (Loomis) got to say it quite loud in Carpenter Street, which Scott winced at - possibly unscripted. :p

Isn't "Oh Boy" one of the many lines he says in all his movies? Every one I've seen him in he always seems to play the nervous type of guy.
