Olympic class/USS Pasteur model decal placement help please!

Hi all. I got this model for x-mas and am waiting on the paint and other supplies for it. In the mean time I'm going over the "instructions" (which are slight to say the least) and the decals are not clear. After much research I've found the placing for most of the decals.

I can't figure out:
5
6
7
8
9

Here is a large pic of the decals (sorry in advance for the thread stretching) - ones in question are circled in red -

I just can't find any pics that show their placement. I could go silly and just put them wherever I think it looks good but I thought I'd consult everyone here first in case someone might know. Thanks for your help! :)

Have you tried posting over in the Trek Art forum? You might have some luck there. The forum has a number of accomplished modelers who can help out.

Judging by pictures from www.ex-astris-scientia.org, #5 goes to the lower bow, just beneath the lower sensor strip but above the dark brown trapezoid (which might be the navigational deflector). #6 is similarly curved, so it probably goes to the corresponding location on the lower aft half of the sphere hull.

I cannot positively locate the #7 transporter emitters look on the original model; the top view at the above website suggests they might be the paired features aft of the bridge, in V formation, plus probably the third transversely somewhere on the secondary hull bottom.

#8 looks like it should be at the very stern of the vessel, on the "lip" of the hull aft of the shuttle "quarterdeck".

The #9 repeats of the ship's name go inside the oval insets around the secondary hull docking ports, on the upper sides of the secondary hull - just aft of said round docking port doors.

Like this, perhaps:

Well, it would seem I was a little too close to the project because now that you point it out some of those seem obvious. Thank you! As reward I will post the finished product in the art forum when it finished.

I do love this community!:bolian:

thank you thank you thank you!!!!!!!

I love the look of this ship. I was very disappointed when Playmates didn't issue a toy model (instead giving us a pointless three-nacelled Enterprise D, and a "Battle damaged" Enterprise D).

Before there was the internet, schematics in magazines, I used to play/pause/rewind/play/pause/rewind again, and again, and again trying to note the details in hte ship and make myself a drawing -- best I could -- of what it looked like.

Needless to say, the prospect at the time of future ship designs possibly still having that bold/modern look, was exciting. Also needless to say, that was all DASHED with every spin-off Trek series, and future Federation ship designs.

Lovely pics!

Seems that #8 might go where the original had the "U.S.S. OLYMPIC" text above the shuttlebay door, then, and not at the very end of the fantail after all.

No good hints about the placement of the third transporter antenna, tho. Too bad.

(Also, looks like the trapezoid at lower bow is a cargo door of some sort, while the deflector could be in the deep trench above it, divided in three parts... Is that a phaser strip across the quarterdeck, aft of the "landing target" decal? A cool model that has all the classic/treknologically necessary TNG era starship bits as standard - something that cannot be said for most designs.)

Very nice pics, saved them right up!

Now the problem is the paint instructions are also a bit vague. Why, oh why is there not some all knowing website that can show me every starship in in close detail with a list of the appropriate paint and the paint scheme. Oh, what I would give.... I guess thanks. :D

I'm trying to decide if the main sphere and lower stardrive section should be duck egg blue, medium blue or perhaps a mixture of both... I'll eventually need a mixture for the contrast, but that's waaaaaay down the road.

Sadly, Testors forgot my airbrush thinner so I'll have plenty of time to figure it out.

Again, best bet is to run over to the Art Forum. I have seen you post over there, so I am sure you know about the quality stuff that comes out of there (not just cgi, but standard old school models, like I try to complete, too). There are some guys there who can really help (Forbin comes to mind). He occaisonally visits these parts, but I haven't seen him in this thread. Try posting the pics over there and see what kind of reception you get.

Thank you oh mighty mod!

So I think I'm gonna try to go studio model style. If anyone has any tips on the details I'll sure take them. If not, I'll let you all know how it came out in another thread down the line.
