Old Enemy Returning, Maybe

Since there's a big huge picture of the returning aliens on the home page of BBC's Doctor Who site declaring they're returning in A Good Man Goes to War I saw no need to spoiler code anything. But just in case someone is trying to maintain total secrecy, the third returning alien has been announced by the BBC.

The Sontarans

Whooo, that should be quite interesting but didn't I read something prior to series six that no bad guys from series 5 would show up in series 6 save for the silence?

The only thing I read is that there were no plans to use the Daleks in S6 or to re-introudce any classic era aliens that hadn't yet been in the nu show. Everything so far has been consistent with that claim.

I suspect that cost is the real rationale behind that decision. If they've been in the nu series, the costumes etc have already been made and can be re-used thus getting more use out them and not having to fork out for new costumes.

The thing that hacks me off about the BBC and spoilers is the double standard. Everything they choose to release in advance is a 'teaser'. Someone else releases it and they wail abotu spoilers ruining things for people. Pot, kettle black, I say.

Indeed. It's possible to work out with almost 100% certainty the "jaw-dropping" cliffhanger to this week's episode based purely on officially released information.

If you ask me, if they take the makeup from the flesh clones and add some cybermen implants, you have a perfect, terrifying looking Cyberman.

And yes, they would look like the Borg.

Yeah, although it was just as annoying during RTD's reign as I recall, Dalek Sek on the front cover of the Radio Times was a bit of a reveal really!

Yeah but to be fair, was it really that much a shock that the Dalek's or that particular Dalek would be back?

no, but the problem was, the photo was Human-Dalek Sec. from the frickin' cliffhanger. ie, the bit you were supposed to be shocked by.

I don't why but I just now remembered seeing the scan of that picture from a newspaper. Honestly though I don't seem to remember feeling like I was spoiled.

Personally I find this particular enemy a bit boring. I also find the whole discussion about the original vs the new series version a bit boring as well. Regardless of if it's one or the other, as far as I can see they'll act pretty much the same as each other unless they somehow write them differently.

Quite.

I wonder why people have a problem with the design-apart from the Cybus logo-which is gone anyway-they sure look like Cybermen to me. They even brought back the 'teardrop' from the 60s/70s Cybermen. The voice is also more in keeping with the 60s Cybermen than the 80s type.

I think what most people are missing are the big 'earmuffs'.
