Old book formatting problem on Kindle..

So I've bought a few older novels on Kindle, the formatting seems off - the biggest issue is the lack of spacing between paragraphs/sections - so basically it's setting a new scene with no prior warning it has done so - to me this renders it unreadable in a way.

It only happens with old books, is there anything I can do about it? It's a massive disappointment.

This is the free program I use when I have that particular issue:

One of the quickest ways would be to perform a convert file (convert individually), set the output to AZW3 or Mobi (both formats have been used by kindle but Mobi is older), and make sure the "look and feel"-->"layout" section has "insert blank line between paragraphs" checked. You may not actually be changing the format in this convert (if your output file type is the same as the input), but it's a way to add the paragraph spacing while avoiding the more complicated editor features. You may also want to adjust the name (as part of the convert process) and send it to your kindle via e-mail (which may mean checking the settings in your amazon account) so that it is available via the amazon cloud to download it whenever you need it.
