I think she's Annie.
Annie and Ben were about the same age, right? Charlotte is easily ten years younger than Ben. Or maybe she uses Noxema!
Charlotte is Penny's sister... Charles Widmore's daughter he had when he was on the island years ago, before he turned the wheel and was forced to leave the island. I don't know how she left the island, but that's my theory.
Annie is not Charlotte. Annie is named Annie.

On a show where a large number of people ("Anthony Cooper," Kate, Sawyer, Ben, John, Michael, etc.) have aliases, I'm willing to accept that Charlotte is an alias.
As for the age difference, either Charlotte aged better or arrived later than she aimed for Island timeline wise.

I doubt she's Annie. I do think she was part of the Dharma initiative when she was younger, but was evactuated right before the purge.
Ben and Annie's daughter. Annie died in childbirth, Dharma told Ben the baby died too (he was only 17 and his hateful father convinced them not to let him keep the baby) but really the baby was sent off island to live with the Lewis family. Ben felt robbed of a daughter and later abducted Alex to make up for it.
Interesting theory.
Unless Ben ran into her off the Island. They may have had some bad blood between during such an encounter, which would be why he would be willing to kill her.
And since when was time travel ruled out on this show?
Maybe when she left quickly, she skipped a few years...
I don't think Charlotte looks young at all. She looks indeterminate 30s like the rest of them. I don't think Ben looks any older than her.
Of course, I'm impossible at telling people's age.
In the second episode of the season Ben says that Charlotte was born in 1979. (That makes her 29 in "our world time" and 25 or 26 at the time she arrives on the island since it is still 2004 there) He also gives a brief family and educational history of her. She has her PhD in Cultural Anthropology from Oxford (and having a PhD from Oxford by the time you are 25 means she must be a genius.)
She wasn't conducting the dig that found the polar bear, she heard about it through academic connections and bribed her way on to the dig site.
PS. I'm really not this smart, or have this great of a memory, I just happened to have seen the episode last night.
