Oh God, Not a Ferengi Episode!

Rom saves it.

Yes. Rom. His endless metanarrative wailing makes this a treat.
For me, this is one of the worst parts of that episode. It got to where I actually wanted to hit him.

I like Ferengi episodes. Then again, there are very few elements of the show that I out-and-out dislike.

Amen!

I'll join the club. Apart from the Prophets, I like mostly anything about DS9- especially the Ferengi. To me, they are different, fun to watch characters. I really love Quark, Rom, Nog, Brunt and Gaila. Okay, Profit and Lace sucks, but I still don't skip it when rewatching the seasons.

I agree that the Ferengi episodes are mostly an irritant. However, a Ferengi-centric episode usually means we also get Leeta, and watching Chase run around in skimpy outfits usually makes up for the Ferengi irritation. :)

Ferengi episodes had the same effect on me, but to a lesser extent (Klingon ones did the same - but thats for another topic). Sometimes during the later series it felt like there weren't enough human/starfleet episodes. I'd be watching my way through klingon, cardassian, ferengi.. thinking PLEASE give me a nice bashir/o'brian episode!!

P.S. To commodore - leeta was well worth a ferengi episode ;-)

i didn't like Ferengi episodes period. I did like fighting between Quark and Odo that was funny. I hated Nagus(spelling) character so much that every time he came on i stop watching.

I'm a big fan of the Ferengi episodes. Not necessarily all of them, but for the most part they were quite funny.

As for Trill episodes, the main problem is that there weren't that many. Jadzia was a prettier Klingon, for most of her tenure, and thus not very interesting. (The only Klingon ep I liked was "House of Quark.")

As for "Emperor's New Cloak" it remains the only episode to feature Mirror Ezri. That's enough to redeem it right there.

The Magnificent Ferengi is one of my favorite DS9 episodes, and quite frankly, a true classic.

Deep Space Nine is my least favorite series--don't get me wrong, it's still a great and well-written show: consider it a B+ to Voyager or TOS's A+--but I always enjoyed the Ferengi episodes, even "Profit and Lace."

They were just good fun, and my Mom (Who considers DS9 far and above her favorite) always enjoyed the Ferengi episodes too, especially the ones with "Moogie."

Out of the Ferengi episodes, my favorites would probably be "The Nagus," "The Magnificent Ferengi," and "Profit and Lace."

I just ordered Seasons 4 & 7 to finish up my DS9 collection from Buy.com (All TNG and DS9 on sale for $44 with free shipping, by the way!) and will have to see "Body Parts" and "The Emperor's New Cloak" again to see how they hold up since last viewing.

The Ferengi episodes were what kept me from watching DS9 during it's original broadcast.

A little social commentary is fine, and materialism is certainly ripe for satire, but if I wanted to see the Keystone Cops, I'd watch them, and not Star Trek.

Yes, I know this has been talked about to death in here. How most of us dread the Ferengi episodes. Just as Wesley Crusher ruined many a good TNG episode, the Ferengi have the same effect on DS9.

I'm rewatching season 3 and there is one incredibly great kick-ass episode after another -- "The Visionary" and "Improbably Cause" and "The Die is Cast" are all masterpieces, in my opinion.

And then "Family Business" comes along. Ouch. All that wonderful momentum is gone.

I always say with great pride that DS9 is my favorite trek series. How sad that such a great body of work is tarnished by the Ferengi episodes.

It's not that the Quark and Rom and Nog are bad characters; on the contrary, I think they play an important role in the series. A background role. They should never, EVER, under any circumstances, be any more than supporting characters. As simple exaggerated caricatures of a patriarchal hyper-greedy society, they just aren't interesting enough to carry an episode on their own.

Why didn't the makers of DS9 realize this???

Amen brother, amen.

Good Lord. Is it possible I'm the only one who thinks the majority of the Ferengi episodes are a disaster?

Not at all, your on right on the money. The ferengi clown episodes tarnish DS9 and all ST. GR must be turning in his orbit watching this after TOS.

The same GR who came up with the Ferengi as seen in The Last Outpost?

^^ The Ferengi who ran around hunched over in animal hides, used energy whips, and were rumored to eat people?
