"Official" Star Trek

I can verify at least part of what Alec states. Before Alec even spoke to anyone, someone from CBS licensing actually asked me "does this page REALLY say 'Official Star Trek' on it?" followed by, basically (paraphrased), 'Are they out of their minds?'

All they have to do is change the name to "Farragut Films' Star Trek Continues" and be done with it. That will make everything clear, at least on FB and stop the wrath of CBS.

If they want to butt heads with CBS and argue about their right to use the name because the page doesn't claim to be associated with CBS - well, I wish them well on that...

Talk about much ado about nothing. If CBS has an issue with this, they will let the production team at Star Trek: Continues know about it. There is no need for anyone to talk on their behalf. This certainly does not imperil every other production, and I don't think any of us should try to police what other groups do.

I sense the same old axes to grind here. Too many fan filmmaker groups behave like high school cliques who have dramatic fallings out and badmouth one another. Enough already.

This has to be the most blown out of proportion thread I've seen in a long time. All they mean is that it's the official page for Star Trek Continues. Says so right below the title. The project is "officially named" STAR TREK CONTINUES, but the page title is OFFICIAL Star Trek Continues because there was already a page named Star Trek Continues. Complete misunderstanding.

I joined the page last week and even I was bright enough to know they weren't saying that their fan film was officially endorsed.

It's pretty obvious that nobody was trying to mislead anyone.

The axiom is that fanfilms need to go out of their way to not get the attention of CBS, appear very respectful when they wander across your websites and forums, and be over the top cooperative when they contact you.

This FB page has already pissed off CBS - even if everyone in the universe realizes what it is saying is NOT that they are associated with TPTB.

Hopefully, they will respond to the situation correctly - otherwise it could spill over to other fan films in general. It seems small to you guys, perhaps, but if CBS is continually stressed out over having to deal with fan film issues, they COULD respond by shutting all of them down so they never have to deal with it again.

Well, then it is a good thing that the issue was brought up in this thread so we could all know about it.

When CBS chimes in, I'll buy it. When parties who clearly have a dog in this fight relate what CBS supposedly thinks, you'll pardon me for taking everything said with a grain...nay, a LICK of salt.

This forum is to discuss ongoing Fan Productions, but I really see no point in discussions regarding personnel problems, feuds, legal actions or the like. That's private stuff and not really a concern of our BBS.
