Official Fan Club of Australia???

Does anyone know what happened to the Official Fan Club of Australia, the company that ran Holodiction, the Australian convention company?

Now I have to go all the way to Las Vegas for the convention, but can't complain, since it will be my second overseas trip in a long while.

Looking forward to meeting William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy and Patrick Stewart, stars that don't come down under, although both Shatner did recently and Stewart now and again.

Wishes that the Creation Entertainment would open a branch in Australia, for us Aussie fans.

You mean the Sydney couple who arrived in fandom about 1986, and started up a licensed ST club while still serving on the committee of a ST club that had been around since the 70s, and then had Paramount send "Cease and Desist" letters to all the other Australian ST clubs? Well, they eventually chose not to renew their license to print a newsletter, then let their conventions and ST merchandise licenses lapse, too. Some would say "Good riddance". In the years they ran Holodictions, they managed to piss off hundreds and hundreds of fans.

Really? Brisbane has had annual SF media conventions since the 80s and often has a ST guest. SupaNova conventions have been held annually in Victoria, NSW and Queensland for many years, and I've met several ST guests at those. Sydney and Melbourne have had numerous other ST conventions with ST guests since the demise of Holodiction.

Creation has actually held several conventions in Australia. It proved to be the beginning of the almost-end: conventions suddenly went from being fan-run, friendly events for 300 fans where the actors hung around the con all weekend, ate meals with fans, etc, to fixed seating events for 2000, where guests only came out on stage for one hour each.

As Therin and teacake have said, there are several conventions each year in Australia. I know there that Supanova will be happening in Sydney and Perth next month. There aren't any actors from Star Trek, but many other science fiction shows. I'm hoping for a few more announcements, but only time will tell.

Also, in Sydney and Melbourne, there are the OzTrek Conventions happening a few times per year, run by Culture Shock Events and First Conventions, respectively. Generally these conventions run in only Sydney and Melbourne due to cost and population in both states, as they happen over a weekend.

And finally there is Armageddon Expo, that happens next in Melbourne (October), and other cities next year.

On the subject of William Shatner and Patrick Stewart, both were here this year and last year. Hopefully Leonard will be here soon. I haven't heard anything, as I generally keep track of what conventions happening.

Yeap, that's the one. Wow, can't believe Paramount sent "Cease and desist" letters to everyone. I hated it how they didn't have the announced the guest, but at least they had some good replacements, and they had it at the proper venues, unlike in Claremont showgrounds in Perth like the Supanova conventions. Why build a convention center in Perth and not use it?

Still wouldn't mind going to the USA. Wish that I could take Jack Bauer with me though. :)

Didn't know that.

^ If you do come to Melbourne for an Oztrek conventions, I think there again will be 3 conventions planned. Hopefully soon should know about OzTrek8. At most they have 2 or 3 guests. I'm hoping Nana Visitor returns soon, as twice she has been trips planned for conventions in Australia, but had to cancel. I remember last year, she was planned to do something in Perth also.

Plus I'm hoping there will be another Star Trek convention organised by The Hub Productions, as they had William Shatner, Scott Bakula and a few Klingon actors here.

In the meet-up forum, I keep track of everything here. Well I try.

Yep Captain Spirk, keep an eye on Elim's Meet up thread he links to above, he's always kept us informed as to who is coming where and when!

The big advantage of Armageddon and Supanova is they are only 20 bucks to get into, really great fun too. I am so looking forward to seeing Bruce Boxleitner from Bab 5 in Armageddon in Melb in Oct.

I hope you will post your Vegas con report when you go!
