I've been wanting to do something like this since I created my Chaplin as Doctor Who avatar. I was torn between using Buster Keaton and Harold Lloyd as Spock. Keaton had the perfect unemotional face (hence his nickname "The Great Stone Face")...however, in the 1920's and 30's, round glasses of the type made famous by Lloyd came to typify the intellectual or nerdy intellectual (especially in the first Thin Man flick).
It was trickier being true to 20's era posters because they didn't have taglines on them. I wanted one like "on a distant world evil lurks" or something in that vein to "explain" the presence of our two monster guys.
And while I meant to get rid of the ciggy Fairbanks has....it was a low priority thing that grew on me, so I kept it in.
