Gene Roddenberry, creator of the Star Trek science fiction franchise, dies in a Santa Monica, California hospital after a heart attack.

:( Wow, I can't believe it's been so long since the Great Bird of the Galaxy left us. *raises glass* To you, Gene, for leaving us with a body of work to enjoy for years.

This is a commonly held but incorrect belief, as I explain here.

Nevertheless, here's to the Great Bird. Thanks for the Trek. I believe I'll watch "The Cage" tonight. :)

I was hit with a double blow. Gene and then 9 days later, Irwin Allen. For better or worse, these guys were 60's Sci-Fi.

And shortly after Gene died, everyone came out of the wood work to claim credit for everything, clouding the history so much, it's impossible to believe anything.

I was 12 then, also a fan who didn't know who he was. TNG had only been in the UK for about two years by then.
