I say it's about time the new president used the bully pulpit to whack the GOP, opening up a can of verbal whup-ass:

Obviously, owing to my avatar and signature, I'm a partisan supporter, so I'm biased. I'd like to point out that in the article, it cites a group of outside economic advisers to Obama who are certainly not that liberal. Many represent conservative, blue-chip companies, and they've endorsed Obama's plan. So get with it Congress!

President Obama's economic recovery package will actually hurt the economy more in the long run than if he were to do nothing, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office said Wednesday.

CBO (Congressional Budget Office), the official scorekeepers for legislation, said the House and Senate bills will help in the short term but result in so much government debt that within a few years they would crowd out private investment, actually leading to a lower Gross Domestic Product over the next 10 years than if the government had done nothing.

Economist after economist after economist has written about how bad this bill is. Over 200 signed a public letter rejecting its crazy economics. Even economists who once supported it have abandoned the Obama stimulus. He would be much better off dumping the Pelosi bill and doing his own - without the pork.

IIRC, President Bush was telling the Congress to hurry up and pass the bank bailout. That worked out well

I'd rather the Congress be deliberate and think things through (which is a RARITY) rather than the typical knee-jerk reaction.

Because Democrats worked more with the GOP than the other way around, Picard. And I do recall the GOP often called the Dems obstructionist when they disagreed on a number of legislative initiatives when they were in the majority and Bush was president. Shoe's on the other foot, like how it fits?

The Dems were obstructionist about a bunch of loony judges. Typical Democrats in the fact that they not only choose the wrong battles to fight but underestimated The Republicans resolve. Just like they did here. Because there were a lot of other things that required being obstructionist that Bush was pushing for.

The Republicans are being obstructionist during a time of economic crisis, which is way worse. And this is just the start. It's going to be the 90's all over again. Bi-partisanship is two-way street. Obama was foolish to want to work with The Republicans. They clearly don't want bi-partisanship. They want to be right.
