O.T. Ames vs. Riverside

Peter David figured I'd know where Ames Iowa was first mentioned as James T. Kirk's birthplace before Riverside absconded with the claim. I thought i did but after checking the Making of Star Trek, Star Trek Concordance, The World of Star Trek, The Star Trek Compendium, The Star Trek II Biographies and Star Trek 101, I'm drawing a blank.

This is now driving us crazy. Can anyone help sources this?

Thanks.

I'm not completely sure what this is what you're after as it was probably long after Riverside had absconded with the claim but the DC Annual Starfleet Academy! states that the Kirk family farm was located in Ames, which was presumably where Kirk was also born. In addition, the DC comic, Who's Who in Star Trek 1, lists Kirk's birth place as Council Bluffs, Iowa. :)

A name like "Council Bluffs" strikes me as a place where it would be hard to have any trust in the city government... :D

You should live in the UK then, that's pretty much a daily headline over here. :D

On a sidenote Bob, if the source Peter David was looking for was in fact the Starfleet Academy! comic, then you can have the pleasure of telling him that he was the writer of that particular comic!

Well, this is embarrassing. If Ames first appeared in the comics I edited, then I should be flogged. Figures I never went and checked the WHO'S WHO there...

OT: I miss those comics, as well as the second DC Trek run. I do go back from time to time and re-read them, especially when I come across issues I haven't got in my collection. I think that I have issues 1-25 of the first DC run, and most of the second run with a few missing issues here and there.

Anyway, just a note of appreciation for all your work on those!

^Yeah. I've been reading through the first DC run on the DVD collection, and I have been really enjoying them so far. I think I'm in the 10s or 20s.
