NZ Fantasy series The Almight Johnsons on Syfy

They announced last week that the New Zealand fantasy TV series The Almighty Johnsons will be having it's US premier on Syfy tomorrow night. I was actually interested in the show even before Syfy picked it up, so I'm really looking forward to it. My only hesitation is due to the fact that it is going to be edited for US cable (the trailer I found on youtube had at least one "fuck", and a pair of visible bare breasts), and I prefer to see something unedited if at all possible. I'm hoping it'll come out in an unedited form on Netflix &/or Blu-Ray/DVD sometime in the future.
For those who aren't familiar with it, here's Syfy's description:
The action-packed comedy drama The Almighty Johnsons follows the Johnson boys, four typical fun-loving guys – who have inherited the power of Norse Gods. But these four brothers are no flashy superheroes. Everyday Gods have everyday struggles – searching for love, overcoming sibling rivalry and fulfilling their God-like destiny – while still enjoying a few beers with their friends.
And their trailer

I love this show.

Although Buffy is a program originally made for teenagers which grew up with it's audience, this series is for adults straight out of the gate, since most of the cast are in their middle 30s dramatically coping with late 20s to middle 30s problems.

Caught this show last night and I thought it was pretty great. Some nice characters, lots of humor and the premise seems full of potential. I hope SyFy shows all three seasons of this show without any breaks. I know Haven returns this fall so maybe they could air Johnsons on another night at that point.

I cringe whenever I see it. One of those kiwi shows which rubs me the wrong way but is generally enjoyed by everyone else.

Cool, thanks for the info.

They were a little difficult for me to understand at first. Axl is not very engaging, but I'll give it a chance for a little longer.

Axl's accent regionally within New Zealand (within Auckland even... ) I would class as a hillbilly, which is quite different to his "brothers".

Axl is supposed to be playing a stupid kid in the beginning, but either he is holding back at first, I just got used to him quickly or the actor grows along with the story, I'm not quite sure, but he's not so annoying as the story continues.

Yeah, NZ and Australian accents can take some getting used to. I've watched some other shows from the region and a crapload of British shows, so I barely even notice those kinds of accents anymore. I've watched so many British shows that I've occasionally started talking with a British accent without even realizing it.

This last episode had one problem for me. Lack of adequate explanation of who Coma Bob was until the very end of the episode. Was he another brother? Another god? I kept thinking I had either missed something or the episode was shown out of order.

The impression I got was that he was his best friend (or at least good friend) and apparently since he was responsible for the accident it created some kind of a connection. This is mostly guessing though, since it was all rather vauge.
Could there be a scene that was cut that provides more background?
I ran into that problem when I used to watch MI-5 on the US channels. They cut the episodes for time, and a lot of the stuff that was cut made the stories harder to follow.

Yeah, at the end of the episode it's revealed that he was just a "best bud". But for most of the hour you're wondering who the heck the guy is and why we should care that he's in a coma. It didn't even serve anything story wise to keep the audience in the dark as to coma Bob's relationship to our characters. The only part they need to keep a mystery story wise was how he ended up in a coma.

Mortals get the short end of the stick when they pry into god business.

It's a continuing theme running in the background.

So Mike's wife was Coma Rob's girlfriend before the accident. He must be worried that when Rob comes out of the coma, will wifey want Rob back? This kind of stuff is why I don't watch soap operas.

That all depends on how it is disappointing you?

If it's just a question of time?

It's not there isn't a way that you couldn't knock out the next three years of this show in one week end.

At least then you would know without wasting a third of a decade like I did.
