NYE... what did you eat and drink?

An Officer

It was far too cold to go out this year, so we had a night in with good booze and finger-food.

We started with pomegranate and raspberry Bellinis, whilst preparing orkney crab claws with a seafood dip. This was followed by a mixed platter of cherry tomatoes, olives, and Ossau Iraty cheese. Dessert was Banoffe cheesecake. All helped on it's way down with a small serving of neat amaro lucano and a mini dark chocolate flavoured Toscano cigar.

We saw in the fireworks on TV, and called loved ones to wish them a Happy New Year.

Suffice to say not all of my New Year celebrations have gone this well... It was always a little too cold, a little too late for the striking of the hour, problems getting there, problems getting home, getting harrassed by drunks, getting harrassed by your date, witnessing fights break out, carrying friends home... NYE have generally been a big anticlimax for me. This year, it was quiet calm, lovely, and most of all, WARM and cosy!

What did you do and eat this year, and how has it compared to other years? I remember when the millenium came in, I was asleep in my bed, working early the next day, and couldn't have cared less about celebrating! Being self-absorbed, I used to make more of a fuss about my own birthday, rather than the birth of a new year....

The girlfriend took me out for Italian food last night. Had some good chicken carbonara. Then I took her home, and was asleep by about 10:30. I'm a party animal.

One of those almond cheese ball things with cheap saltines. 2 bottles of cheap wine. With my wife asleep at midnight I had a bowl of cereal. Who says I'm not a foodie? Only the best on NYE!

Pretty much the same here. Just kept it light because I didn't want to do a bunch of dishes later. Creme fraiche, spinach dip, various chips and crackers, Christmas sausage, cheeses, jumbo shrimp & cocktail sauce Whiskey/rum and cokes for drinks :)

We also stayed home.. Vilde was home with us so we didn't want to go out and risk him getting hysterical when the fireworks start. We had a lovely evening.

I made dinner.. Whole porkfile, which i cut in half lengtwise, spread apart and whacked to an even size and put mozarella, crispy bacon, onion, garlicsoftcheese, fresh basil and a little sundried tomatoes on. Wrapped together in bacon. Fried around it to give color and then into the oven. Added creme fraiche, whipped cream, tomatoepaste, soysauce, spices, garlic to it as a sauce to cook in.

Served with hasselbackspotatoes . That is potatoes that are sliced but not all the way through.. based with butter a few times and topped off with breadcrumbs and salt and another drop or two of butter.. I started with these and then the meat went in along side.

Green beans (boiled) with some garlic butter on if needed. Cucumber also.

It was very appriciated by all three of us. We skipped dessert and just had a little chips/crisps when we watched a movie together. And had a bite or two of my home made bountys (coconutcaramel dipped in chocolate).

At midnight we shared a few glasses of Asti Cinzano (cheapo bubbly but i love it) and watched the fireworks.

I ate a bowl of cereal and some mac and cheese. I drank a raspberry flavored Smirnoff Ice. Then I went to bed at 10:30 because I am used to waking up at 6 a.m. for work and that makes me fall asleep earlier than I'd like. My boyfriend woke me up ten minutes before the new year to "celebrate," but I just sat on the couch feeling really sleepy. I went back to bed around 12:15 and woke up at 7 a.m. Damn this sleep schedule!

We stayed in for prawns and asparagus in garlic butter to start, steak with pepper sauce, ratatouille in big field mushrooms, potato leek and cream bake. With a bottle of Fab Cab - exactly what it says on the label! I hate pretentious wine! Cheese, biccies and grapes for after. Oh but the calories are outweighed by the enjoyment! About 9pm we said 'shall we go down the pub?' But with the warmth and cosiness and lack of effort we stayed put. Bottle of fizz at mid-night and texts to friends. Perfect! Sam son went to London with friends and watched the fireworks at the London Eye. He has just texted saying he is on the way home and starving. Oh to be 15 again :)

My son and I ordered pizza and watched movies...he tried valiantly to stay up 'till midnight, but didn't make it

I went to a party, so there was a huge variety of finger foods. I personally made a couple kinds of pigs in a blanket and some savory pastries with apples, onions, garlic and brie. They were a big hit, surprisingly.

To drink, it was Natty Boh, champagne, wine and some sort of shots people kept passing to me...

Ooh,, sounds seriously tasty. Your family are lucky so and sos. :bolian:

The guys who stood as the groomsmen at my wedding came into town to stay at my house for the holiday. (Converging from Palo Alto, CA; Fort Smith, AK; Baltimore, MD; Bourbonnais, IL -- coming to Dubuque, Iowa.)

We ordered Happy Joe's pizza, got some 12-packs of Coke and A&W root beer, played Rock Band, Halo, Super Mario Kart and more. Around midnight, I cracked open a non-alcoholic Clausthaler Golden Amber beer.

And it was a wonderful time.

This New Year's Eve we didn't do anything special at all. No particular food or drink. Just a big bowl of spag bol. Compared unfavourably to last year, when we went to a black tie event, complete with champagne cocktails and a banquet with dancing to follow. This year, however, I was so knackered that I really enjoyed a quiet evening in and didn't miss the extra couple of pounds in weight and couple of hundred pounds in cash the New Year's Eve could have cost me.

A teetotal New Year! What kind of mod are you? :p

I can't remember.

No, not because I got wasted (funnily enough, it was the one night in the past week or so that I haven't drunk). I just can't remember clearly.

My New Year's related food tradition is to have a roast on New Year's Day though. Rolled lamb shoulder, with crispy roast potatoes & savoy cabbage today.

What is porkfile? I tried to find it online but didn't have much luck.

New Year's Eve wasn't too special..just some small hamburgers and small chicken casadillas we got yesterday at Wal-Mart. And I had a small margarita, plus some Smirnoff Ice which was really tasty!!! And I stayed up to watch the ball drop in NYC. Then watched a movie with Dad and went to bed. I didn't know whether or not I could stay up cause I was so extremely tired from the night before. But I did.

Took a walk to Buckingham Palace to watch the midnight fireworks with a housemate.

Took some hot Winter Pimms mixed with apple juice in a thermos.

Pretty delish... and kept out the winter chill
