Why was '26' the standard in the newer series? And why did TNG, DS9, and VOYAGER all have one season with less? TNG being the 2nd, and DS9 and Voyager being the first...While Enterprise had less for S3 and S4?

If I recall correctly, for Voyager anyway, the first season was shorter because it premiered in January instead of September.

If you air one episode per week, the show airs for exactly a half year. I think it has something to do with that..

The Authors striked, thankfully, otherwise the Borg would have been connected to the parasites from the first season.

and DS9 and Voyager being the first...
I guess the network only ordered only twenty-something episodes because they weren't sure if the show would really be a sucsess? Three or four episodes from Voyager were held back until the second season so that Voyager S2 could start airing earlier.

While Enterprise had less for S3 and S4?
Due to bad view numbers.

The reason for TNG season 2 only having 22 episodes was because of the Screen Writers Guild Strike in 1988 and the season started late by November 1988 after the strike ended.

Season 1 of DS9 had 20 episodes as it started midseason (Jan 3rd, 1993).

Season 1 of Voyager had 16 episodes as it started midseason (Jan 16, 1995).
