nuKirk's Birth <spoilers>

Just had my third viewing last night and came away with many of my former conclusions, namely that Uncle Spock was confusing and largely unnecessary, Nero showed excellent potential, but was underdeveloped, the reboot story wasn't as fun as a 'standard', soul searching type of adventure would have been for me, but still lots of fun, and that the real genius of the movie rested in the casting and the performances which were outstanding in every respect.

But the thing that surprised me was that once again during the opening scene I got quite choked up over George's death/ Jim's birth. Maybe it's because I'm a father myself with a young son that I don't know how I could bear leaving them in such a manner. I know George had no choice if he wanted them to live at all. I don't think it was just me though. I think this opening scene was brilliantly constructed and masterfully pulled off and that's the reason it chokes me up every time I see it. Great scene, kudos to everyone involved.
