It's a preachy, dated Cold War message movie that isn't even a quarter as good as it's merely-decent source novel, as goes too far trying to explain the unexplainable.

Enjoy the film, book is better. 2001 is a better movie, IMO, much better. But 2010 is still a worthy addition to my DVD library.

My favorite thing about the film is that brief scene near the beginning of the film with Chandra talking to SAL, who is played absolutely beautifully by Candace Bergen. It's very interesting to see an alternate version of the ultimate A.I. icon, HAL. Good dialogue...nice, quiet, thoughtful little scene....
