novel titles and Trek series 'Chapter Log' names on DVDs

Why would a Trek novel reference a DVD menu's segment titles for the acts of a TV episode? "Hey, Spock, do you remember back in 'The Corbomite Maneuver,' in the chapter called 'Face of the Unknown,' when you said...." I mean, seriously. What context are you imagining these would be used in?

What? Why would we do that? Unless it's some common phrase that was used as both by coincidence.

For instance, I see some titles in there that have coincidentally been used as Trek novel titles, but unrelated to their use on the DVDs, like Contamination (a TNG novel) and Mind-meld (a movie-era TOS novel), and a couple that are close to novel (or later episode) titles like "The Chain of Command" (TNG novel Chains of Command, TNG episode "Chain of Command") or "The Vulcan Heart" (Lost Era-ish novel Vulcan's Heart). Clearly just happenstance, though.

As far as I know, the DVD chapter titles are not something widely known in Trek fandom. They're nothing more than a convenience for DVD users, no big deal.

I gotta say....I never even noticed the chapters on Trek DVDs had "titles." I so rarely use the chapter feature on any DVD, it's just not something I look at.

However, this thread now has me considering using the captions from those old bubble-gum trading cards as possible story titles. I mean, how can these miss?

Destruction Decision
Phaser Daser
Murasaki Mischief
Spock Takes A Job (for the young reader line)
Warp Out for Rescue

etc.

Do you have a link to the full list of titles?

'fraid not. Somewhere in a box I have a set of those cards, but I recalled those captions from memory, as they'd always stood out to me.

And then there are the names Michael Giacchino gave to the tracks on the Star Trek '09 score. I mean, I can't resist the notion of a story titled with something like:

Galaxy's Worst Sushi Bar
Nice to Meld You
Vulcan Gets A Good Drilling

Ok, I've gotta say I would be very curious to see what someone could come up with for "Vulcan Gets A Good Drilling".

My first thought is that it would involve a visit to the Federation's worst dentist, whose lobby includes a voracious singing plant...

But would you have Jack Nicholson or Steve Martin play the Vulcan?

The nitpicker in me feels compelled to point out that Steve Martin played the dentist, not the patient.

Bill Murray played the Jack Nicholson part in the remake . . .
