Not getting DD 5.1 from PS3 connected via HDMI to pioneer vsx 23txh

Hi team. Hoping for some advice.

I have my new (slim) PS3 wired to my pioneer vsx 23txh via HDMI. When I watch Blu Ray or DVD, my receiver display shows the input source i.e. DTS Master or Dolby True HD or Dolby Digital.

However, when I play a PS3 game which on the box says Dolby Digital (examples: NBA Live '10, Little Big Planet, Drakes Fortune) my receiver is showing PCM.

What's up? Is there a different setting in the PS3 for game versus Blu Ray/DVD sound output? Or is it the setting for that particular input on the receiver?

I know in Uncharted 2, you can change the sound/speaker options in the settings.

Go to sound settings and pick Audio output, then HDMI then Manual, and tick what you want the output to be, i think if you do it automatically it will alway pick PCM by default.

I don't really understand the sound settings... If I want to get 5.1 while watching a movie, I have to select it from the manual output like suggested above. But if I even want to hear sound while playing a game, I have to uncheck them.

^^^There are two settings, one for BR movies in the BR settings and one for games in the sound settings, you can select what you want in either, but for games in anything but the default settings which is PCM 2 channel you have to manually select your sound settings from within the sound setting tab or it will default to PCM 2 channel.

If I have anything besides the default selected in sound settings, my games give me "incompatible signal" warnings (Guitar Hero: Metllica) or simply play silent (Modern Warfare 2). I'll try the BR setting thing tomorrow, thanks!

No don't select everything, only select the one option you want.
