Normandy: Then and Now

Oh wow, great find. It's remarkable to note the changes but also how much has remained the same or has been restored. Wonderful job by the photographer piecing all of this together.

It's amazing how many of those buildings that were damaged were simply repaired, and are still standing today. Some of them were just about destroyed, too. I can't imagine we would do it that way in the US--more likely, we'd demolish the building and start from scratch.

I can only imagine the research they had to do for this.

I think it would depend on the area and the age of the buildings.

In the '80s, I had the wonderful experience of visiting Normandy..granted, it was only 40 years before that the Invasion had happened, but I found the French in the area to be rather grateful to the Allies who participated, and the help they received afterwards helping them to re-build...and actually talking to some folks who were alive and able to tell me stories..was rather touching...

They all told of the destruction, but how it was WORTH it to endure such pain to remove an oppressor...

That's a great find, Gas. Thanks for posting this. (Already forwarding the link to someone I know will enjoy seeing it.)

I prefer the look of the WWII pics. They had "Old World Charm". :) Really though, those pictures are fantastic. Thanks for the link.

I find the photos of bombed Europe to be incredibly moving, whatever country it is that suffered.
