Non-Trek - Serenity Universe Ships

Vektor

I have been running a role-playing game set in the Serenity universe for well over a year now. We started out using the Serenity rules system from Margaret Weiss Productions and later switched to my old sci-fi favorite Alternity, which offered a much more expansive and complete set of rules. We stuck with the ship designs from the MWP book, though, including our hero ship, which is of the same type as one of their sample ships called the Aces and Eights. I always liked the design and have been thinking about modeling it almost since the game started. I had some extra time over the holiday weekend so I decided to go for it. After about five hours worth of work, this is what I have:

In terms of scale, this ship is about 195' long, which makes it very similar in size to a Firefly. My players have currently named it Lady Luck, though it has changed hands a couple of times prior to and during our game and has also been known as Dodge City and Beowulf. Obviously, the model is nowhere near complete. Lots of hull sections to fill in and details left to add.

In addition to this model, I am also working on a model of one of the Great Arks, the generation ships that brought humans from Earth-That-Was to the 'Verse. The campaign we are currently in involves one of these ships and I thought it would be useful to work out what it actually looks like for both my benefit and that of the players. That model is in very rough form at the moment but I will be posting some WIPs of it in this same thread in the not-too-distant future.

Stay tuned.

Oh, nice. When it's done would you mind making the model(s) available for Escape Velocity: Firefly?

The only special formatting I'd need in order to use it would be a way to easily separate the objects representing engine glows (assuming you add them, I can do basic ones myself if necessary), and a separate luminance texture for running lights (if any).

Very cool, I've been working on and off on a few ship designs myself for Firefly-related projects. Can't wait to see how it turns out.

Well, I was a little surprised that nobody else has tackled it before, at least not for public consumption.

Here's one more, probably the last for a couple of days:

Very nice -- needs a couple of windows on the bow, though... ;)

(I know, you're not that far along yet -- As always, a great job!! Wish I had your talent, Sir Vektor!)

Cheers,
