if there is one thing that drives me nuts its folks that take themselves so seriously in their hobbies that they loose sight of the fact that they are supposed to be enjoying their hobbies. In the world of firearms that is very true. There are a great number of folks who know what they are doing and do it very well. I respect them, but at the same time I cant help but snicker at these folks. They are so wound up about ballistics and data sets that I have to wonder where the hell the fun went. Then there are the "mall ninjas"
and thier "tacticool" set ups that seem to be preparing for the next alien invasion but who will wind up in all likelyhood wetting their pants if someone said so much as "boo" to them.
Now to someone with my imagination, twistedness, and propensity for tweaking noses this is not always a good environment for me to be in. But if I dont do something to ruffle some feathers I'm going to go mad. So I decided to do something about it. I wanted something that I could print up as a sticker, use as an AV, or possibly get emroidered or silk screened. Something that would tweak those noses but to do so subtley. So I got a few ideas, collected them, and tried to put them to use.
This is the result
Most of the work was actually done in AutoCAD and an old copy of Corel Gallery 2 that I have. From Corel I got the M16 and the skull. The M16 was modified to be a steet legal M4. I then got a pic of a Trijicon AGOC optic, imported it as an Xref into AutoCAD and then traced it. I did the same for the fire axe. For the skull I hacked off the top half and I put the brains there and then I tried to make the eyes more menacing. I also decided to ditch the lower jaw. The Biohazard symbol is simply found from the character map (U+2623). I arranged all of this in AutoCAD Architecture 2008 and then did a BMP out. Then I went in to MS publisher and put the text around it (main text in the stencil font, and the latin motto in the Algerian font). Finally I saved it and then went into Paint and put the OD green in.
Obviously I do not do this for a living. There are a few things I'd like to do such as put the latin motto into a scroll that curves upwards. I dont know if I should put anything to the left and right of the crossed M4 / fire axe or if I should put some sort of round border around the images or if it all should be put into some sort of unit patch (I.e. like the 101st Airborne) with the wording on scrolls.
Anyways if you feel up to it, please tear this apart and tell me what I should do better or what else I should try. If anyone feels like playing around, the source images can be found here
