The title itself is self-explanatory. This includes events from around the globe. For example, Michael Phelps 8 gold medals at Beijing, or the Brett Favre Saga. Roger Federer vs Rafa Nadal or the Giants winning the Super Bowl. Once we have an appreciable number of entries, I'll post a poll to see where the sports conscience of the TrekBBS lies.
 
The 2008 US Golf Open. Tiger playing on one knee, and then probably the greatest 19 holes of golf I've ever seen between Woods and Mediate as a playoff. That was probably my favorite sports moment of the year.

Two I can think of...Michael Phelps and of course, the Patriots winning all their games EXCEPT the Super Bowl. Probably the worst choke in history.

Giants winning the Super Bowl definitely tops my list. What a game.

Alexander Ovechkin taking the Capitals on his back and making the playoffs and winning every single major award a forward can get.

Phelps and Bolt dominating the Olympics.

That Federer/Nadal final was pretty epic too.
 
Lots of good ones this year.

I have to go with Phelps' performance at the Olympics. That was a world-wide story.

I'd hardly call it a choke as evidenced by that last wonderful regular season game between the Giants and the Patriots. Coughlin could've rested his players, but he chose to fight to potentially blemish their record, to which they nearly succeeded. They failed that day, but guess second time's a charm. :) The Giants, from a defensive standpoint, were outstanding, and who can forget that freak Tyree catch.

Oh, and btw, way to pour salt on old wounds. Still pains me to this day thinking about it.

I was going to say Phillies winning the World Series (ending a 25 year city drought for all sports), but she beat me to something Phillies. It was one of the top stories according to the Sports Reporters (specifically Stephen A. Smith of the Philadelphia Inquirer, but ignore that ;) ).
 
Here are a few:
  • Arizona Cardinals win their division for the first time in 33 years.
  • Rutgers completes remarkable turnaround from 1-5 start to bowl victory, done only a few times in NCAA history.
  • Rafa Nadal wins greatest tennis match of all time, dethrones Federer as King of Wimbledon.
  • Tim Tebow receives more first-place votes than Sam Bradford, but is denied second Heisman.
  • Phelps Spitz on old record, becomes new Aquaman.
  • Good triumphs over evil as Giants defeat Pay-Cheats in Super Bowl.
